“RUBY” started out in life as a 1931 Ford Model “A” Roadster and became a father and son project approximately 18 years ago. Unfortunately, he father passed away and the son shut the project down. The car sat until I made an offer that he accepted in 2013. I hauled it home on a trailer and my first task was to disassemble everything and check each part.
The motor came from a brand new 1986 Chevy truck, ought in Arizona. The truck owner wanted a bigger motor in his new truck, o we brought the V6-4.3L motor to California. This motor still had break in oil in it when it was brought to its new home.
It had a new 1931 Model “A” Brookville body,it was then stripped to bare metal, primed and painted. Each part was individually painted before final assembly.
The entire body was lined and sealed with Dynamat Cool and Quiet products to eliminate noise and heat transfer.
While developing the wiring system I decided to locate the electrical control circuit in the left rear quarter panel instead of in the traditional location under the dash. This panel is accessible through the rumble seat area. Everyone that sees it thinks it's slick and easy to work on. You don’t have to stand on your head likemost tight under the dash installations.
I used 1932 Chevy hood panels with louvered doors to improve motor cooling and they both function and look great.
The custom built full boxed frame did not have a vehicle number on it, o I went to the California Highway Patrol to have it inspected for assignment of my vehicle number. The officer told me, ince my car was a specially constructed vehicle, should go for “SB100” exemption from theState of California. Each year this Senate Bill 100 allows the first 500 specially constructed vehicles that meet the State inspection standards may be licensed to go smog-free for the life of the car.Ruby passedtheir inspection with flying colors. This certification is mounted on the firewall.
If you are familiar with these types of vehicles and parts, ou well know thatthis build sheet showswell over $80,000 USDinvested. A lovely, rouble free, how quality roadster equally at home at the drive-thru or cruising up the coast with baby.
