Before the Mustang era began, Ford’s Falcon Futura was one of the smallest, sporty Fords customers could buy. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is proud to present this 1963 Futura Convertible. This unit was made on June 14, 1963 at Ford’s Lorain, Ohio assembly plant. The former owner reported that the car was formerly used as a parade vehicle in dry, southern California.
Dressed in handsome Corinthian White with a blue interior, this car has a navy blue power-folding top, which also looks great. It also has a matching tonneau cover to secure the top when you want to feel the wind past your ears. The paint and trim are in overall very good condition, with only minor blemishes visible on the driver’s side rear. The windows are in very good order, clear and crack-free. The car’s lights are in great shape, including the half reflectors on the headlights.
The car rides on BFGoodrich whitewall radials, sized 185/70R14, and surrounding knock-off wire wheels. The body panels are straight and solid. The engine bay is very tidy, the chrome bumpers are in very good order there is checked matting in the trunk and the battery looks great.
Under the hood is a rebuilt 170 CID straight six-cylinder Thriftpower engine (aka Mileage Maker, which Ford advertised as getting 30 miles per gallon), sporting a red air cleaner housing and valve cover, blue distributor and yellow oil filter. This engine is buttoned to a four-speed manual transmission, a very rare Falcon find, and a 3.50:1 rear end. This engine is spectacular for its simplicity and ease of service. Also, there is a lot of space underhood to reach engine and front suspension parts.
Inside, the two-tone blue vinyl bench seats are in excellent shape and the matching blue carpet is in very good condition. The instrument panel is solid and crack-free, however the engine temperature gauge is inoperative. It and the three-spoke steering wheel are both in near excellent shape. The matching inner door panels are in very good order and the shifter is in good shape. Finishing the interior is a factory AM radio.
In 1963, Ford made even more models were available, a four-door Futura, a Deluxe wagon, Futura Convertible and Futura Sports Convertible models. The Falcon was climbing in trim level from its budget beginnings, as Ford attempted to wring more profit from the line.
In 1961, the 170 CID straight six-cylinder became an option for the Falcon line, had four main bearings and can be identified by the three freeze (core) plugs on the side of the block. Documentation includes the original owner’s manual and repair receipts for new seat belts and engine generator.
Competition to this Ford in 1963 included Chevrolet’s Chevy II and Corvair convertibles, Dodge’s Dart Convertible, Mercury’s Comet Convertible and Plymouth’s Valiant Convertible.
This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 17,897 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, California mileage exempt title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
