Ford Mustang 1968 Description
1968 Ford Mustang Convertible - TX Survivor Driver- Zero Rust- Loaded! This is one of the best examples of a Survivor Driver 1968 Ford Mustang Convertible. The car has been was sold in Texas and believed to been garage kept it's whole life. This is a great example of a daily driver that has had it's normal maintenance done over the years, as can be seen by a few wear and tear mechanical parts being replaced. Some of these where actually kept and are in the trunk as seen in pictures. The car is like a time capsule it runs, drives and stops amazing.
We ran a Marti Report on this car and it comes pretty rare due to color combo and options. It is only 1 of 111 with this paint and trim code, 1 of 301 delivered from DSO, 1 of 874 with factory 8 Track stereo and 1 of 3,316 with the Lime Gold paint code sold in a convertible in 1968. See pictures for full report.
One of the most incredible parts of the car is it's undercarriage, it is complete "Rust Free" with no patch panels or any signs of damage. We pressure washed the dust off and couldn't believe our eyes, almost never do you find a Mustang let alone a convertible this original and rust free. Take a look at the pictures and you will see the factory undercoating and small sections where the original Lime Gold paint showing through. All of the unique convertible supports and torque boxes are perfect.
The Lime Gold paint and exterior body over the years has had it's fair share of driver bumps, bruises and scratches some repaired some still show. If you look at the pictures you will see the original metal that has been chipped off behind the rear quarter we believe the original owner lived on a gravel road in Texas and daily use just plain wore the paint away. This also proves no filler has been used on these panels and gives it character. The car represents very well but still has it's bumps and bruises which we feel gives it character and tells it's life story. You can keep it this way or it can be perfect candidate for a show quality restoration.
The Deluxe interior is really nice and shows no major wear and tear. The seats may have been recovered at one point but the rest seems to be original with some minor wear showing on upper door paint and arm rests. All in all it's s great driver quality for the year. The top and rear glass window has been replaced and Marti Report says it should have black top but someone decided white was the way to go. The top is power and goes up and down as it should. One of the unique parts of the interior is the 8 track stereo which the Marti Report says it's only 1 of 111 with this option. The 8 track plays but doesn't sound great and the stereo doesn't make any noise at all but really looks cool in it's place.
Up until current owner the car sat a few years in storage and needed it's gas tank flushed and carburetor rebuilt to make it run. The 289 V8 runs amazing an cruises really nice down the road. The car is highly optioned as you can see with Power Steering, factory disc brakes, Automatic trans and factory AC. All the components work well except the AC compressor is dead. All the parts work under dash and controls including fan but the compressor turns on but the clutch is shot. This is an easy replacement part and can be running with a charge. But this is a convertible and the whole idea is to cruise with the top down and that is why we think it was never fixed.
You will be hard pressed to find another really nice driver 68 like this with such a rust free body and highly optioned. This car will go up for sale for a maximum of four weeks at this firm price and if it doesn't sell we will fully restore it and the price will reflect it. Buy her now and drive it or get yourself the perfect start to a full resto. Check out the full walk around video link below, cut and past the link into your URL bar to watch.
