Ford Ranchero 1965 Description
1965 Ford Ranchero. I bought this a few years ago and have used it for more or less a daily driver for the past three years. It is dead nuts reliable and can be driven anywhere. I bought it just after the engine, transmission, and all the suspension had just been rebuilt. Since that time I have put about 30,000 miles on the car, only replacing front disc pads and changing the oil.
The car has a strong 302 with a 390 cfm holley. The transmission is a C4 and the driveshaft was also rebuilt and balanced just before I got the car. I was planning on converting this to a Falcon/Comet hybrid - often called a 'Cometchero.' The dash has already been done, and the tail lights are from a 65 Comet Wagon. The car comes with 2 VERY nice Comet front fenders, headlight extensions, headlight doors, a VERY nice refinished grille, a Comet hood with a glassed in teardrop scoop (done correctly), a re-chromed Comet front bumper and a bunch of trim and emblems needed to finish it off. The dash trim was refinished at a cost of $800 a few year ago and at that time a full compliment of Autometer gauges were fitted to the stock cluster. The car has a front disc conversion from a 69 Falcon. No power steering, but a Geo Metro power brake booster was installed I assume at the time of the disc swap. The rear end is an open 8" - not sure of the ratio but would guess to be in the 3.0 - 3.20 range. Also has 3 point seat belts.
The prior owner must have run out of cash during the restoration because the paint is low quality driver at best. Looks presentable from 5 feet away, but it will need to be done at some point to look right. I was always planning to do the cosmetics when the Comet sheet metal got fitted. I haven't run into any rust issues, but I've never pulled the carpet out of the car entirely. I've cut a section out of the carpet when the Mustang shifter went in, and peeled it back on the drivers side and it looks clean. I don't see anything from underneath - it's nice and clean. I do see some small bubbling here and there, but I think it's from the horrible paint prep. I never did replace the carpet when the shifter and hump was installed, but I have a new ACC carpet kit in emberglow (the color in it now) in the box that comes with the car.
The car needs some cosmetics, but it's not a project. The tail lights need to be finish fitted, the carpet needs to be replaced, along with new kick panels (with Sony Explod speakers installed with vintage chrome speaker grilles) that also come with the car. The car has a new vintage looking heater/A/C underdash unit, along with a new condenser and dryer unit. The compressor, bracket and hoses still need to be sourced and fabricated. I'll include a new pint of Ford Wimbledon White paint if you want to spray the quarter panel that's seen better days from all the gas spills. The fuel fill was later moved up higher inside the bed to eliminate the problem and the valuable cap is bolted from the inside to stop theft.

Lots of questions on the Comet parts coming up, so here is the info that I can remember:
Both front fenders
Nice set of ‘sergeant’s bars’
Hood with very nicely done glassed in teardrop
Front Hood Molding
Front Hood Comet Script
Both Headlight Extensions with lamp buckets and eyebrow moldings
Both headlight doors in above average driver condition
Stock grille assembly with polished ribs and new center emblem
Freshly re-chromed front bumper
Both front parking/turn signal housings and lenses
Comet hood release assembly
C-O-M-E-T lettering for tailgate
65 Villager Tailgate Moldings
And stuff I’m sure I’m forgetting
Also have a spare 8” rear end, complete from drum to drum equipped with Trac-Lok that the winning bidder can have for an additional $500 and it can be shipped with everything else in the bed.
I have another project coming in so this one needs a new home. The opening bid is ridiculous for what this is, but if that's what it brings, that's what it will be. There is no reserve, so the high bidder will own it. There is a lot of junk out there that people want stupid money for, so if you want a nice '65 I don't think you can do any better than this for the price. Again, it is not a show car, it is not perfect, it's just a nice 51 year old. I'm sure I'm forgetting a ton of stuff, so please ask your questions. Normally I'm able to respond quickly.
Please ask all your questions prior to placing a bid. I have clear title in my name. Please note the vanity plate on the car is NOT included in the auction. Shipping is to be arranged and paid for by the winning bidder. The car needs to be picked up within 2 weeks of auction close. An immediate non-refundable deposit of $500 is to be placed via Paypal at the time the auction closes. The balance is due within 3 days of auction close. The car sold AS IS, WHERE IS, and is WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. There are no returns so please look at the pictures carefully, read the description closely, and ask any questions you might have.
Thanks for looking and good luck!
