Ford Mustang 1965 Description
Early 1965 Mustang (Factory) GT Fastback
Guardsman Blue
Deluxe White Pony Interior (Original)
‘A’ code 289 V8 (Original)
4 Speed Close Ratio Toploader HEH-BT (Original)
9 inch Rear End
Front Disc Brakes (Factory)
This is a great early 1965 GT Fastback “project” that has a lot of originality to it. Guardsman Blue was only available in early 1965 from what I can find. All “original metal” with the exception of hood, deck lid and driver’s door.
Car is a driver with a sound, nice running original date code correct 289 V8
- Larger than stock camshaft, has a lope at idle and sounds mean
- Edelbrock aluminum 4 barrel intake
- Rebuilt Holley 600cfm 4 barrel with electric choke
- Pertronix ignitor ignition, new distributor cap, rotor and plug wires
- New fuel pump, fuel lines front to back, gas tank and sending unit
- New 3 core Radiator
Transmission is the original 4 speed close ratio 28 spline Toploader (HEH-BT) which shifts great and has a good clutch. Original ID tag is still attached.
Ford Factory Front Disc Brakes are original to car and has the big single manual master cylinder. Drum brakes on 9 inch rear end. All in good working order.
Nice styled steel wheels with newer tires.
Dual exhaust front to back.
Headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals and interior lights all work and have power. Front turn signal and original Ford Fog Lights work but unplugged currently. Correct Fog Light switch with original wiring and circuit breaker under dash.
Front suspension has one new lower control arm, upper ball joints and newer tie-rods on both sides. GT large diameter sway bar. Could use a front end alignment.
Needs painted. I know it didn’t come from factory with the Lemans stripes. Paint has chipped off in several spots. Light bondo behind driver side rear tire and a little on two spots on tops of quarters and small amount on passenger side roof above drip rail (see pics) but no apparent rust and still all original. Using a magnet there is still full metal behind bondo spots. Must have been fixing imperfections in metal. Wheel wells and quarter wheel well lips are intact and in great shape. If you look inside the trunk at the quarters you can see all original, no patching. Solid original front and rear frame rails. Floors all original with one small 6 inch patch made at drivers front floor/firewall extension panel where your left foot rests. I would replace the rear GT valance. Small amount of rust under the battery tray. Doesn’t need the entire apron replaced only the bottom where the battery sits.
Interior appears to be all original with white deluxe pony interior seats and door panels. Metal dash under speedometer has the correct curvature to allow for the deluxe five gauge instrument cluster bezel. Uncut dash and original radio. Rear GT reinforcement panels underneath rear seat. Headliner is good, I wouldn’t replace it. Complete interior with all rear fold down interior trim pieces intact.
All glass is good and original. Doors open and close easy. Windows go up/down easy.
Vin is visible on front inner fender aprons and matches clear Missouri title.
No warranty, car is sold as is where is.

Fog light switch location is correct for an early 65 and I have a picture of the 'D' shaped hole in the dash. If you want to see a pic of it let me know your email address and I'll send it as I can't add anymore pictures.
