Ford Mustang 1966 Description

No Reserve - 1966 Mustang Fastback GT 4 Speed 1966 Ford Mustang GT 4 Speed Factory Air Conditioning car selling at NO RESERVE! A true diamond in the rough and 99% rust free! Plus she runs and drives very nice! Yes. it's a true GT. 1966. Ivy Green Fastback with Black interior. Factory 4 speed with air conditioning. Yes! But it's equipped w an automatic at the moment. Practically no rust at all!! Drive while you restore! I have personally driven it several hundred miles around town. The perfect father and son restoration project. It is believed that I am the 3rd owner but possibly the 4th if there was another owner very early in life. When i purchased the car my intention was to install a Coyote 5. 0 w/ 6 speed like my 55 Chevy convertible in background (w/ LS2. air ride). However. once i found out how complete and nice the car was I just couldn't bring myself to hack on such a nice and original car. Problem is that the kids love the 55 Chevy convertible and we don't drive the mustang that much. Plus I have a chance to buy one of my dream cars so I need to make some space. The story: In 1984 a 21 year old named Don set out to find the car of his dream with help from his dad. The car that Don always wanted was a first gen Mustang Fastback. Eventually an add for a 1966 Mustang was spotted in the local newspaper. Bill. supposedly the original owner wanted to get rid of the then daily driven mustang. After a phone call and viewing the car was purchased for $2. 00 towards the end of 1984. They drove it home and per Don's father he was the second owner. He drove it as a daily driver until 1988 when Don and Tom decided to restore it as a father and son project. At that time they rebuilt the engine. took the car apart to repaint and installed new interior. It was then retired to garage duty and very limited use after the restoration. In 2000 a housing remodel meant the Mustang needed to set outside during construction. It never moved back in the garage. In 2004 I moved to Tulsa and found an office 4 blocks away from where this car set. After looking at the car I knocked on the door. I spoke to Tom. the father. at first who then promptly got his son who lived at the house. Don was an interesting fellow. to say he had some form of social anxiety disorder was an understatement. I actually felt sorry for the guy. Regardless. the car wasn't for sale at any price! 2010 came along and the same answer. Not for sale at any price. Unfortunately at the end of 2014 Don lost his life at age 52. Don's father Tom then lost his wife not long after his son passed away. Such a sad deal. So after all the years of talking to Tom he was finally ready to sale so I happened to walk up to the door at the right time and the right day. Tom knew what he had and wasn't ready to give it way but he also wanted it gone and for people to quit knocking on his door. Moral of the story. Don't give up. And many thanks to my friend Nick for the help. The car: 1966 Mustang GT. This is a true A code. 4 speed. GT Fastback. First off. I love cars and have been collecting (i. e. hoarding) for years but I'll be the first to admit that I'm not an early mustang expert so I had the dual exhaust brackets in the frame rails verified by a couple Mustang experts to authenticate it's a correct factory GT. And it is. It was originally a 4 speed car but now has an automatic. The 4 speed pedal frame is still there. Decoding: 6R09A104583 1966 Mustang San Jose Assembly Plant Fastback 289cid 4v 225hp V8 Body: 63A 2+2 Fastback. standard interior Color: R Ivy Green Trim: 26 Black with Black Trim Date: 03J September 1965 DSO: 65 Oklahoma City OK Axle 3. 00:1 Equa-Lock Differential Trans: 5- 4 speed manual transmission Engine: Per Tom. they used to start it up and drive it around the neighborhood until 5 or 6 years ago. The engine was rebuilt and has less than 5k miles (but it was in 1988). In fact. there is less than 10k miles on the car since 1984. When I acquired the car the carb was stolen and the GT gas cap removed. Don took care to cover the intake and gas tank after the items were stolen. To get it running the engine was thoroughly checked. The valve covers were pulled. all cylinders were oiled and a fresh oil change was in order. The distributor was pulled and manually turned over by hand to make sure oil was getting to the rockers. New plugs. wires. cap/rotor were then installed. A brand new Holley was installed and she fired right up and ran like a dream. A new gas tank was installed in the process and all fuel lines were checked and fixed/replaced if needed. A new radiator was installed (correct) but the radiator that was taken off is with the car (i haven't checked codes/date to make sure it's original to the car but i assume it is. ). Exhaust system has leaks and should be replaced. I have no idea if it is a matching numbers engine. I know it's based off date code as there is no VIN stamped on the block. but I haven't decoded it. Brakes: Rear brakes were completely rebuilt top to bottom. It was kind of a mess in there so new drums were put on and a rebuild kit/new pads installed. The front didn't actually look too bad. A 1967 master cylinder was installed because i wanted to the dual reservoir in the event a brake line failed i would at least have 1/2 the brakes to slow down. The original GT master cylinder is included if you'd like to correctly restore it. The GT proportioning valve is still in place. Tranny: Shifts as it should. Once brakes were rebuilt it was time for a test drive. The tranny is obviously not original. nor is the console but it shifts nice and firm. I have a box of extra parts and the original hubcaps. I know where there is a correct 1966 T-10 4 speed that can be purchased for $875 (just the tranny). Body: This car appears to be practically rust free. In 1988 they replaced the passenger floor pan and did some minor rust repair. That's all that i can find that they replaced. This was a garaged car it's whole life until pulled outside in 2000. The only rust i can find is the very small area over the right side wheel well (see pictures). Note. this area is not rusted inside the wheel well. It's quite odd. The floors. trunk. torque boxes all seem to be in very nice condition. The only other rust I could find was a small section on the front left frame rail. Very small and please see pics. Other than those two places I cannot find any other places of rust and I've crawled all over the car. This car was well taken care of. As I put the pictures up the ones of the trunk and the right side quarter close up did not come out. I will upload more after some daylight. The trunk is very clean with no rust! The lights. turn signals. brakes all work properly. The gauges work properly. The radio does not turn on and the belt is off the AC although Tom said it worked when it was pulled out of the garage in 2000. The seats need be re-upholstered. new carpet and door panels. It looks like they installed a dash cap in 1988 and it looks fine. I have the original hub caps. lower windshield trim and rear window trim. The clips in the rear window need some attention. The rear window probably needs removed. new clips installed and trim inserted. There is also a slight crack in front windshield towards upper left corner. This car appears to have never been in an accident. Overall I've driven the car around town and put a few hundred miles on the odometer. The tires are way past their useful life but since I don't worry too much with just driving around town. Must have new tires if you want to get on the highway. I really don't have a clue what this thing is worth. I have quite a bit of money wrapped up in the purchase and to get it running. It's been fun but time for the next adventure as i love old school with late model power/convenience. IT WILL COME WITH THESE RIMS NOTE: The car will come with the Cragar SS wheels and tires. The problem is the front wheels rub when the car turns. The later GT rims/tires are borrowed and must be returned. THEY DO NOT COME WITH THE CAR. Only the Cragar SS rims. I will keep the GT rims/tires on it until the end of the auction and at that time I'll change over the SS's. You are welcome to come look at the car. crawl all over and drive it prior to auction end. With the Cragar rims/tires it will pull on a trailer just fine. Unfortunately my hoarding or rims/tires has not uncovered another set that will fit properly. Sorry.
