If this was an "M" code in this condition it would be $125,000-$150,000 or more. You can relax...it agreat dealless than half that amount.Make no mistake about this....this isNOT what most people refer to as" Driver" or a "10 or 20 footer" This is a correctly restored car in show condition. Not FLAWLESS...because no 53 year old car in my opinion isperfect...but it is most certainly a car in SPECTACULAR"show Condition" that drives absolutely fantastic. It is the best I have seen & drivensince I drove my friends brand new 1962 Thunderbird Sports Roadster back in 1962. (white with red leather & a white top)The AC is so cold in this car that "you could hang meat" in front of the AC vents and it would thaw out.Standard was Cruise-O-Matic transmission, ower steering and Power brakes and the 390cid V-8 rated at 300 HorsepowerOptional was the following:Sports Roadster Package (89 in the VIN and a Body code of 76BFactory Air conditioning (ICE COLD)Power Windows (All work perfect)Leather Interior (So new that it gives this car that great "new car smell)Power Seat (Driver) (works perfect)Power Seat (Passenger) (works perfect)Tinted WindshieldWindshield Washers & Wipers (work)AM transistorized radio (sounds great)Seat Belts (front seats only)Outside MirrorThunderbird Floor Mats (4)(A dealer installed itemall innew condition4/way safety flashers (a dealer installed item & works perfect)This car has all of these except the "M" code 3-2's engine option. As delivered in 1962, his very well optioned Roadster costs as much as a Cadillac Convertible.....Over $6000!What is the condition of this factory Roadster?EXCELLENT!How does it drive?Exactly the way I remember driving my best friend's Fathers 1962Thunderbird in 62 when it was brand new. FANTASTIC. His was White with Red Leather and a white top.Shown in the auction is the restoration book which documents the restoration process in photos and receipts. The book is more than 3 inches thick...so we won't bore you with a mountain of receipts and more than 90 photos of the restoration. The process started in 2006and wasn't completed until 2010...although there are additionalreceiptsfrom 2011-2012.We will include a few of the restoration photos-the final resultsspeak proudly of this professional restoration. There is approx.1000-1100 miles of driving since the restoration was completed. The Rangoon Paint (code J) is Magnificent. It is the state-of-the-arttwo-stage with lots and lots of clear coats. It is the type of paint thathas incredible depth...almost like you could put your hand inside the glass mirror like finish. We found one tiny spot on the car that was touched up but it is too small to show up in photos. We had our paint specialist have a smallcan (maybe a 1/4 pint ofpaint) made up by using a computer to produce an exact color match and it will be included with this car.(sealed in plastic)You can see a photo of the can & the paint formula in the auction. We wanted the new owner to have the correct color match paint. The body is laser straight! The doors, ood, runk, op, indows all havean incredible fit.The door jams have a mirror finish. Both Threshold door sill moldings were rechromed & look greatThe power windows all work perfect and so does both ofthe power front seats. The AC is the best working one I have experienced in ANY car from this era...it cranks ICE COLD!Radio sounds excellent...as good as an AM radio can sound.
What type of battery is best for this car?
The best battery is the one that fits perfectly and has the most cold cranking amps.
We located this incredible battery with 640 cold cranking amps and 800 cranking ampsat 32 degrees centigrade. It was $200 and we installed it today.
The battery could start the space shuttle! (just a little humor)The Leather interior, oor panels, ash are among the best I have ever seen in a 62 or 63 Roadster. The photos don't do it justice. The smell of the real leather gives this car that great "New Car Smell"When we first removed the Tonneau cover it was apparent that noone has ever sat in the back seat since the restoration was completedEvery gauge works, s does the odometer & speedometer.Horn, ipers, efroster, eater, blower all work. The cigarette liter doesn't work because I believe it is disconnected.A great idea because there is NO WAY I would ever let any onesmoke inside this car.The Center glove box locks and is really nice inside and outside..I will readily admidt I am over the top with all of our vintage cars and take a great deal of pride in them. I noticed that the Radiator Cap is not the correct original type and the two large clamps on the large radiator hose are not the original type.We ordered the exact correct 1962 Thunderbird radiator cap and the two correct original type hose clamps. They will arrive in a couple of days and will be installed on the car. $45 for an original radiator cap & 2 clamps is expensive. It made us happy...because we want to make you happy!Wealso found the correct original type AutoLite Spark Plugs Model 45and had them installed in the car. The car ran fine with the plugs that were in it....but I thought they might have been the ones installed when the engine was rebuilt during the restoration so played it safe, e installed the correct new AutoLite 45's and gapped them at .35This car has several sets of keys and all will be included.Included are two original type pairs of 1962 Ford Thunderbirdblanks. Another spare set which have already been cut to match this car. Also a really nice set of special custom made Thunderbird keyswith a little red Thunderbird car on the key ringAlso included is the Owners Manual and Special Convertible Operational & Service Manual. I believe both are reproduction. We found an original complete 1962 Ford Thunderbird Service manual and it will also be included with the car. Both headlights work and so does the bright switch on the floorboard.Backup lights, rake lights, urn signal lights, arking lights all work. The engine compartment is nicely detailed and all the decals appear to be correctly placed. The trunk area where the top retracts was completely redone and looks terrific. The undercarriage is clean, o signs of any rust and was undercoatedto protect the frame & chassis from corrosion. The wire wheels are beautiful with no pitting. Chrome is fabulous! When restored, he convertible top frame was redone and a new correct top and rear window installed. The Tonneau Cover looks "AS NEW" and I don't think anyone has ever sat in the back seat. It is an ORIGINAL Tonneau-not one of the poorly made reproduction Tonneau's you see on so many Roadsters. You can put what ever modern stereo you want in this car...I just hope you don't cut into the door or kick panels. Best to hide the speakers in small enclosures under the bucket seats facing backwards.A stereo company in California makes a modern Stereo with a retro look that fits in the dash with no cutting....I will be happy to give the winning bidder the name of the company if that's the route he or she choose to go.The clock keeps perfect time-probably because it was replaced with a $190 internal modern quartz movement. We sent this car in an enclosed carrier to have Tom in Deland,FL.who has been working exclusively for more than 40 years on 61-63 T-Bird Roadstersand convertibles, 959-1960 & 1961-1967 Lincoln convertibles and1957-1959 Skyliner retractable hardtop convertibles. He truly is an expert. Not only is he a true expert and a gentleman, ut has always treated us very fair. He replaced one switch, leaned upthe contacts on another and said that the top is in perfect working order. He also made a slight adjustment to the flipper lid. We sent the car to him because we believe in preventative maintenanceYou will see a video of the top going down and one of the top going back up. It works 100% correct. We were going to make a 3rdU-tube of taking this gorgeous Thunderbird Roadster for a short ride but rain was fast approaching so we put the top back up and put the car back inside the garage. When you turn the key to the on position...the red lights for oil & genlight up in the dash-just as they are supposed to-when the car starts-they both immediately go out.The emergency brake works great and the red warning light comes on in the dash when you start the car-and goes out when you depress the small chrome emergency brake release lever. All the lights work in the dash and they can be faded up to be brighterand down to be dimmer. Even the AC controls light up.Under the dash is the dealer installed 4/way emergency flasher. It works perfectly and we were able to take a photo of the light in the RED on position. The interior courtesy lamp comes on when a door is opened and goesoff when both doors are closed. A very nice feature that was added isa very tiny micro-sized toggle switch. It lets you open the doors without the interior courtesy lampcoming on. When put in the on position, he courtesy light comes on when either door is opened and off when both doors are closed. It is hidden and we will give it'slocation to the lucky winner of this auction. The chrome on the car is incredible. The Bumpers look like they were triple plated. We found one very small area of pot metal that has minor smallpitting. It is too small to show up in photos but we just wanted to mention it. It is in the inside channel of the vent window on the passenger side.If your like us, ou would rather be made aware of something, ven if it's minor because all of us car guys (and girls) don't like suprises. The car drives fantastic...very tight....very quiet and smooth. When the brakes are applied, he car stops straight and does not pull to either side. The steering is tight and silky smooth....you can steer this car with 1 or 2 fingers...but I play it safe and put both hands on the wheel at 10 O'clock & 4 O'clock. The suspension was redone and probably why the car rides and drives so well...just as I remember these cars back in 1962. My best pal use to borrow his Dad's Roadster, e would drop the top and cruise Miami Beach and go up & down Collins Avenue until we found somegirls to cruiseCollins Avenue with us.This was a different time...and a much safer & happier world ...I wish we could turn back to those fabulous 50's and 60's but since we can't, wning, riving and enjoying a great 62 Bird Roadster like this is the next best thing. The real "Factory Built" 1962 Thunderbird Sport Roadsters are among the most prized Thunderbirds ever built. This car wassubmittedto the Thunderbird Sport Roadster Society by a former owner, ichard Sacks and you can see a copy ofhis document in the auction.Lois C. Eminger, istorian & Authenticator of the Thunderbird Sport Roadster Societypassed away in 2008.Lois was a friend on mine and it is with great respect we remember her with this tribute. In Memoriam:
Lois Eminger
(1920-2008)Known as "Mrs. Thunderbird" at Ford Motor CompanyLois Eminger worked for Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, ichigan, nd eventually retired after many years of service to the company. She had earned the nickname of "Mrs. Thunderbird" among Ford employees, nd for good reason. She was the lady given the task of communicating with Thunderbird owners who corresponded with Ford about their cars, specially if it were an older model that was no longer covered by a warranty. This author remembers well the letter received from Mrs. Eminger in 1973 when I wrote to Ford inquiring about how to purchase a Shop Manual and an Owner's Manual for my 1966 Thunderbird. In her letter to me, he explained that she was known as Mrs. Thunderbird, nd went on to advise me how to order the literature I had inquired about.

While employed at Ford Motor Company, minger discovered that original invoice copies were being destroyed when no longer needed. These invoices are actually the #2 sales copy, nd were one part of the multi-part form that also produced the window sticker that appeared on new car windows. Eminger felt this information might be of importance to people down the road, o she asked for permission to save these copies for future reference, nd permission was granted by Ford for her to do so.

Eminger was the original owner of a Dusty Rose 1957 Thunderbird, nown as the "Pink Lady," and had membership number 0004 with the Classic Thunderbird Club International (CTCI). By all accounts, he was a very lovely lady that everyone enjoyed knowing, nd she certainly shared a strong admiration for the Ford Thunderbird, s well as other Ford cars. Eminger often wore pink, hich was her favorite color. People who requested invoice copies or other information often received a hand written note from Lois as well, hich shows what a true enthusiast she was. She was reportedly thrilled to receive an invoice request and discover it was for a particularly rare car, nd was happy to know that it had survived and was in the hands of someone who was caring for it.

The exact accounting of how Lois Eminger came to save all these invoices was told by Eminger herself in the 1990s: In 1967, ois worked in the Legal Department at Ford, nd needed to research a particular 1955 Thunderbird. When she asked the people in archiving for the invoice, he was told that they were all thrown away after 10 years, hich of course meant that the information she needed had been destroyed two years earlier. Concerned about this newly revealed information, he asked Ford management for permission to have the archive send her all invoices instead of destroying them. She received the OK, nd from that point forward the original invoice copies were sent to her. When one considers the monumental task of storing all these invoices over the years, t's apparent Eminger's dedication to the classic Ford hobby was very strong. She said she stored the invoices in envelopes, ach of which contained about 50 invoices.

For many years, ois Eminger supplied original invoices to Ford Motor Company vehicle owners. They only needed to provide proof of ownership for their vehicle, nd pay a modest fee. Countless rare cars have been documented over the years thanks to Eminger's foresight to retain these invoices. In her later years, minger sold her invoices to Kevin Marti.

In addition to her 1957 Thunderbird, minger has garaged various Ford cars over the years, ncluding a 1967 Ford Mustang Hardtop, 967 Ford Mustang Convertible, 971 Ford Mustang Mach 1, nd a 1963 Ford Thunderbird Sports Roadster. Most of them were reportedly painted pink (the Sports Roadster is Rangoon Red).

Lois C. Eminger died on Sunday, ugust 24, 008 in Spokane, ashington after an extended illness.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Lois on several occasions over the yearsand meeting her in person at a Ford Charity event in 2001. She will be greatly missed by 1000's of car lovers worldwide. She loved sharing her incredible knowledge of Mustangs & Thunderbirds.

This car was completely & professionally restored. I have a large book which begins with receipts dating back to early 2007 and indicating the car had approx. 73,000 miles. The majority of the bills are dated 2007 through 2010 but there are additional receipts from 4/21/2011 ending on 8/22/2012.The bills indicate that the restoration was begun by a Richard Sacks in 2007. Included withthe sale of this caristhis book that is 3 inches thick with amountain of receipts and lots of photos of the car in various stages of the restoration. There are photos showing the engine & transmission out of the car but the photos are not dated.74,059 is the mileage recorded on the frame and body of the car. We believe that approximately 1300 driving miles have been put on the car since restored and the original engine & transmission were put back in the car.The trim code of 86 proves that this car left the factory with black leather. Consequently, hen the seats were redone they were done in real leather....not vinyl.Sports Roadster production started on September 13th, 961 with VINnumber 2Y85Z105844. Between that serial number andserial number2Y85Z114640 some 558 factory Sport Roadsters were built. All of these Roadsters were invoiced and sold as convertibles with optional Sports Roadster package using Body Style Code 76A. Mostof these cars were painted Rangoon Red with Black Vinyl trim. The first Factory built Sports Roadster that was actually coded as a Roadster was built on December 11th, 961 using the new Sports Roadster Body Code 76B and it was serial number 2Y89Z127027. The last production 1962 Sports Roadster was built on July 26th, 962 and had serial number 2Y89Z176031.If you want to buy a copy of the original dealer's invoice or have a reproduction made of the original window sticker, evin Marti of the Marti report purchased the records Lois had and are available for most factory Roadsters for 1962 & 1963& most 1962 & 1963 "M" RoadstersA total of 1,427 Roadsters were built in 1962 of which 120 were "M" Roadsters with the 3/2bbl Holley carbs and aluminum intake manifold.A restored "M" Roadster in the condition of this car will easily bring $125,000-$150,000. As they go up in value, ars like this withit's 390/300HP engine designated as "Z" in the Vin number are also rapidly appreciating in value. Remember..it's the 5th digit of the serial number that tells you if its the 300HP engine (Z) or the 340HP engine ("M)Many more convertibles were built (8,457) so be very careful when buying a 1962 or 1962 Sports Roadster...DO YOUR HOMEWORK...MAKE SURE YOUR IT'S THE REAL THING. If you have the Sports Roadster factory stamped serial number under the hood in the two places as does this car as well as on the original Data Tag and also on the title...you know you have the "REAL DEAL"I studied this car carefully...it appears to have it's original front fenders (you can see the 3 digit code stamped into the fender) It's original doors, ood and Trunk as well as it's original floor pans and trunk pan.In 1963 Production declined of the Factory Built Sport Roadsters to just455 cars and only 37 of these were "M" Roadsters. Convertible production also dropped to 5913.So why did production drop when these cars were so beautiful? The answer is very simple...These were VERY expensive cars in 1962 and 1963. A fully loaded Sport Roadster like this car had a retail price over $6000 making it more expensive than a Series 62 Cadillac Convertible. Your average car buyer couldn't afford the price tag.Today, ecause of their great demand and ever rising value, nscrupulous sellers are putting reproduction SportTonneau fiberglass covers, mitation Kelsey/Hayes Wire Wheels, eproduction passenger assist grab bars and reproduction Sport Roadster Thunderbird Emblems on convertibles and trying to pass them off as the real deal.We can 100% guarantee you this car is a factory built sports roadster...and if your considering another car, lease contact us and we will help you verify what your thinking of buying. So what was happening in the world in 1962 when the ThunderbirdRoadster was introduced to the car buying public? On January 17, 962 television quiz show contestant Charles Van Doren and others were convicted in New York of game show fixing.John F. Kennedy learns of Soviet missile deployments in Cuba on October 16, 962, nd demands their removal. The United States and Russia were on the brink of thermonuclear war before Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev agreed to remove the missiles on October 28, 962, nding the Cuban Missile Crisis. It was a very scary time during the Cuban Missile crisis. I was a senior at the University of Miami and living at a small rental apartment directlyon South Dixie Highway (U.S. Hwy 1). I awoke around 2:00am and opened my front door....as far as I could see in both directions weretanks, rucks, rmored vehicles and missile launchers.Thank the Lord it was Russia who "blinked" and turned their ships around avoiding surely what would of possibly been the end of the world as we know it.Back to a much happier topic....Ford introduced the Thunderbird 390 High Performance Sports Roadster.Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels became an option and were standard on the Sports Roadster. When restored the owner decided to buy brand new reproduction Kelsey Hayes Wheels-that's why they are perfect. They have two benefits. They hold constant tire pressure. Back in 1962 most had to install inner tubes to prevent loss of air and the modern reproduction wheels are easy to balance. The K/H wheels in 62 were near impossible to keep in balance. As a result they were known to eat up tires in 7,000-10,000 miles. The swing-Away steering wheel option was introduced and Power Steering & Power Brakes along with Back-up lamps, love & luggage compartment lights, ruise-O-Matic Transmission, lectric Windshield Wipers, oot-operated parking brake release with warning light all became standard on the Thunderbird 390 Special Models. An optional AM radio is fully transistorized and the first use of a PCV systemwas utilized for California delivery only.If you were toldthis Roadster wasrestored within the past year, ou would believe it.It's that niceIt turns heads and causes a sensation where ever you drive it!Shipping: If you need help shipping this car in the U.S. or anywhere else in this world, will be happy to put you in direct contact with Mary Olson who has been our sole shipping person for not only us, ut for several of my friends who own car museums. Even in this very tough economic times where real estate has tumbled down a very steep hill....vintage cars...the real ones...the pedigreed cars in great restored or near perfect original condition continue to hold value and in most instances appreciate.

Why not have fun with your money? ...enjoy your life and know that when you wake up in the morning your dollars are still safe in your garage or warehouse and haven't evaporated into thin air

I was privileged to be close friends with the late Jerry J. Moore fromHouston,Texas. Jerry was a Real Estate Mogul and one of the largest owners of shopping centers in the world.

Jerry was also an avid car collector and amassed one of the largest and best vintage car collections on the Planet.

If Jerry told me once....he probably told me over 100 times......"In case you forgot...remember..."You will never see a Brinks truck at a funeral service or a Hearse with a luggage rack at a cemetery!"

Car collecting is a family thing...everyone around the world admires and loves these great vintage and collectible cars.

We have sold cars fromAustraliatoAlaska...FromChinatoSaudi Arabia.....FromManhattantoMoscow....and the hobby keeps growing & expanding all the time.

Collector car insurance is dirt cheap...about $250-$300 a year for a quality collectible like this. and you can also buy full coverage!

They usually require a garage and not more than 2500 miles a year put on the car.

I recommend you only buy a car like this if you have a garage to keep it in.

I always try and look for major flaws and mention them and try to point them out when I see something. If you call me I will go over the car with you in great detail...both inside and out. The couple of tiny flaws are too miniscule to show up in photos...but I'll be happy to point them out.

Your welcome to come in person to inspect this car for yourself...hire anyone you like to come on your behalf....bring your Experts and magnifying glasses........see if you can find anything really negative worth mentioning...we tried and couldn't find anything other than what we stated in the description...maybe you can?

We have tried diligently to find any MAJOR flaws in the paint, ody, nterior, echanical or electrical systems and have not been able to locate anything that we could list as a MAJOR problem in the description or that we haven't already mentioned.

I truly believe there is NO such thing as a "PERFECT" old car or even a late model car that has been driven, E ARE NOT making such a claim.....but this car comes close to perfection...ESPECIALLY when you consider it is FiftyThreeYears Old !
