This 1957 Ford Thunderbird Convertible was bought new in 1957 by the editor of Road and Track Magazine!! On August 1. 1957. Dean Bachelor. then editor of Road and Track magazine. walked in the front door of Fortner Motor Co. in Los Angeles. Cal. to drive his new T-bird home. This bird. Dean stated he bought this car twice. Dean had the means to personalize in a well engineered first class way. Dean objected to the "eyebrow" look over the headlights and had a custom shop rework them to 1953 headlight rims. He later stated that no more than six people ever noticed it. which was. in his opinion. successful customizing. The original 14 inch rims were replaced with 15 inchers to improve ride and extend tire and brake life. The original grille was reworked to six horizontal tubes furthering the different-from-the-rest look. Dean featured the bird in several magazines showing detailed pics of the transformation process. (Rod and Custom. Feb. 1959 and Road and Track May 1960) The latter article compared it to the Sunbeam Alpine.
