1971 Ford Torino Grand Touring "GT" Sportsroof This is an extremely rare full size muscle car. According to the Marti Report this car came new out of Atlanta. Georgia. It was built in August of 1970. and dealer ordered from Austin Ford located at 3801 NW 27th ave. in Miami. Florida. This is not a clone! This Torino was factory ordered as a GT and verified as such on the Deluxe Marti Report painted Grabber Green Metallic with laser striping. nbsp;and the factory ram-air shaker hood system. It seems there has only been one repaint somewhere over the years. It does not look to me like the color that was used is the original color. The proper Grabber Green Metallic can be seen under the data decal on the drivers door or around the jacking instructions inside the trunk. I think that is a much more attractive green. I also showed somewhat of what the laser striping used to look like in a picture from the drivers door jamb quarter panel where the remnants of the original laser stripe still exist. This Torino was factory ordered with the sweet hideaway headlight option. The headlight doors are not connected. but from everything I see. I believe all the parts are present to have it hooked back up again. Someone with a little hideaway headlight knowledge should be able to figure it out pretty easily. I have heard that there are several companies out there that sell a new updated electrical hideaway set-up for around $300. The head light doors will be zip tied open. so making the hideaways work will be left up to the new owner. According to the previous owner this GT does have the original numbers matching 351 engine and the mileage is correct at just over 67K. but I have no way to verify that as accurate. I never learned where to check numbers on any Fords. I will seek out the numbers for any interested party that makes the request and can tell me where to locate them. This car starts right up. and does run. drive. and stop. This car is being sold as needing a complete restoration where everything on the car will need to be gone through to make it a nice driver again. It could probably be driven around awhile like it is. but I would not recommend it. This car deserves the proper restoration deeming the rarity of its existence. I think all the body panels can be used in the restoration. but I would suggest finding a nicer trunk lid. The chrome and trim all looks straight. and in pretty good condition. All four wheel opening moldings are still on the car. I don't know of anything really missing. but the outside drivers door handle should be replaced. The white pinstriping and body side moldings are not original. I'm sure the winning bidder will want to put the laser striping back on this car. The 1971 full laser stripe kit is available at Phoenix Graphics for around $150. so the winning bidder can start making their list. This Torino GT was factory ordered with power steering and power front disc brakes. and it looks like the master cylinder was recently replaced. There is a pair of dual sport mirrors painted to match the body color. The bucket seats and console were also an ordered option along with the bumper guards. As seen in the pictures. the entire interior still appears in relatively decent condition for being original. All the original seat belts are present and showing. Another great option to have on these older classics is air conditioning. The a/c on this car is currently disconnected. but from what I can tell all the components are under the hood to be able to restore the system. A detachable faceplate Pioneer AM/FM stereo CD player is mounted in the dash. but not hooked up. This car was originally ordered with an AM radio and dual rear speakers which are no longer present. There is a set of four P235/60R14 inch Goodyear Wingfoot GT raised white lettered steel belted radial tires with good tread on a nice set of four Magnum 500 wheels with all four bolt-on center caps. and all four beauty trim rings. The front floors have had some patchwork. and the trunk pan could use some repair work. but does look to be original to this car. In my opinion. the frame is in decent condition for a 44 year old car. I didn't see any bad areas where these cars were typically known to rust out. This car is being sold with an open. clean. and clear Wisconsin title that shows that this car was previously titled in Georgia. I have no idea how long it spent in Florida or Georgia. I acquired this car in a trade. because I believe it is worth much more than the car I traded. Note: This value does not represent a 100 point show car or a #1 vehicle. Those vehicles can reach much higher prices. $21. 74 in average condition. which they consider in good overall condition that could be an older restoration or a well maintained original vehicle that is completely operable. The exterior paint. trim. and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. They say an average condition car is considered a 20-Footer! These Torino GT's have consistently shown to escalate in value with each quarter. These cars are getting harder and harder to come across. Especially one in this documented color combination. What you see is exactly what you get! This auction needs to be paid according to the auction guidelines. If you don't have the amount of money readily available to complete the transaction. then please look somewhere else for a rare Torino GT with a shaker hood. laser striping car with hideaway headlights. This car would be great for a father and son project to do some family bonding. The end result is always very rewarding. It may be for the guy or girl who had one when they were in high school and would like to relive their youth. It could also be for the high end restoration shop that wants to do this car to live auction standards. These highly optioned unique muscle cars have been showing some serious dollars.
