Ford Thunderbird 1968 Description
Nostalgia, it's so easily attached to your favorite base ball player, and their team.Where you were the first time you heard your favorite rock song.Or your first kiss.Another one I would add to that list, was cars.In this case, one in specific, The 1968 Ford Thunderbird Landau with suicide doors, was incredibly nostalgic for me.The car I rode to and from church every Sunday morning, with a grandfather who adored it.A pillar in both Ford, and Hollywood Movie cultures it wasn't hard to fall in love with and made its mark on me.Before the release of the Mustang in 63, the Thunderbird WAS the sports car, then by 66 it was realigned as the luxury car to answer to the success Lincoln was seeing with their Mark series and Continental. So, when I found one last summer, and had extra cash, I didn't even have to think about it.Sadly, now the extra cash is gone, and paying to store it is making an even heavier dent in my pocket book.Equally as sad, because it's finally summer in beautiful Michigan, and I've only been able to enjoy one instead of the many I'd anticipated.I am the second owner, and between getting to know the older gentleman I bought it from, and only 41, 18 miles on it, I assume almost all it saw was sunny sunday church drives in its 57 years.I couldn't remember what I liked the most about that car the way it flew along with its 360 HP 429 Thunderjet, the flip open headlights, the suicide doors, the wooden steering wheel, or the sequential taillights that slowly build up and blink when your blinkers are on.But, after seeing it again, I came to the conclusion that it was all good.As suspected in an almost 60 year old car it had quirks:- A blower motor- Exhaust Manifolds- Window Motors all through out.The first to get checked off the list was the blower motor done with a reputable dealer in the area done last summer. The next was the exhaust manifolds, I have both of them and the gasket but, a limit of funds and time hasn't crippled me from finishing it yet, they will obviously go with the car, as I have no use for them.Wanting to take care of anything in the engine compartment took priority for me, thus why I haven't gotten to the window motors.I have priced them out and found all four for around $100/shipped.All original, even has the stock Thunderbird floor mats, and still has both cigarette lighters left in the rear ashtrays ( which were all unused.)The manifolds need to be done soon but drove all last summer, a local sale could drive it home, but with the exhaust manifolds ready to go in this bad boy, it would be a shame for someone to run into any more severe issues before changing them out first. Therefore I would encourage shipping it to it's future owner, and having the 2 hour exhaust manifold job done.Small paints scuffs here and there, no sever or significant dents worth mentioning, and some oxidation of the metal on the door handles but, overall in Very Good condition.I chose to keep this bad boy original, but the possibilities are endless. I commonly "what if'd" with my car buddies about how it would look with some newer clean rims on it.. Something right out of a rap video was the common reply.I have had great success with PayPal and feel it's the safest for both parties involved, I also may know a very reasonable shipper to save you money there as well, or you are more than welcome to come and pick it up.Upon receiving the payment, I will sign over the title and my loss is your gain!Thank you for your time, it is heart wrenching to think about her go.
