Ford Galaxie 1965 Description

Ever want to be the most intimidating and interesting person at every stoplight? This 1965 Ford Galaxie 500 XL is a road-legal custom-built tribute to Fred Lorenzen's Daytona 500 winner and there is no better way to turn heads everywhere you go.NASCAR fans need no introduction to this car. Lorenzen was one of the bravest first heroes of stock car racing and it doesn't get any better than his coupe in Holman-Moody's fast Ford #28 livery. Chrome is usually king on a 60s cruiser but this is a whole different animal. The brightwork on the bumpers headlight surrounds and grille has been toned-down to show that this racecar means business. If the perfect replica sponsor stickers don't make everyone take notice the electric blue wheels will. But beneath the surface there is a lot more usefulness than just a competition appearance.Open the door and the drilled steel panels are the perfect race-ready greeting to the interior. The toggle switches and full gauges are easily seen thanks to the skinny but grippy race wheel with the Holman-Moody logo in the center. The builder also didn't forget the famous "Think! W.H.M?" slogan (we bet if you read the description this far you already know what it means). Look at the big tachometer. It just begs for you to grab the t-bar handle shifter and row through the gears. But be careful this is not a stick shift car. The automatic transmission is the first indication that this racer has some creature comforts. You can take the kids for burgers because you've got a full interior with black vinyl buckets in front and a bench in back. Plus there is heat/defrost a carpeted trunk and even cup holders for four. But on those nights when you're alone you can roll down all the windows and everyone at the stoplights will instantly think they are up against a classic NASCAR racer. Another reason why you'll have everyone fooled into thinking that this is a track-only creation is the race-inspired exhaust that lets out a vicious rumble right below the driver's side. But to understand what's making this beastly noise you have to unlatch the competition hood pins to get a look at the powerplant. This is believed to be the original 390 cubic-inch V8 that came with the Galaxie but as you can see its been given some NASCAR-inspired fun. The custom air cleaner is not only larger for the sake of performance but also the "Bowtie Buster" attitude inspires some friendly competition. Whatever power this car wants to put down at any given time is not a problem because the stout Ford C6 three-speed automatic transmission should handle it. This also rides on a set of white letter 255/70R15 BF Goodrich TA tires for a nice balance of retro appearance with modern grip. This Galaxie 500 XL can give the impression of an illegal street machine right down to its roar. But we'll give you the original window sticker and restoration/transformation photos to show you how legitimate this classic really is.
