Ford F-250 1972 Description
I'm selling my 1972 Ford F250 4x4 known in original ford literature as the High Rider but more often referred to as the Highboy. As shown in VIN its a factory correct highboy with a few extras - the VIN plate states it has a GVW rating of 7700 lbs - this is the maximum available rating in '72. Plus it has the sport custom trim which includes the extra chrome trim interior and carpet. This truck runs very well. it will start up immediately after about 3 pumps of the accelerator - no matter how long it sits - whether 1 night or 1 month. The automatic choke on the professionally rebuilt carburater works perfectly. It idles smooth and does not stall. This truck is extremely reliable. I have driven it mostly around town in the last few years - but i have also driven on numerous out of town trips to LA and San Diego without any issue. I had the gas tank professionally flushed and sealed. This 360 engine is very powerful - it makes me think the previous owner upgraded some internals to make it a 390 - or its just recently rebuilt. Everything works on this truck. The horn works great on an all original excellent condition steering wheel. The gages work great. Another great option is the cargo light - the factory lighted pull switch on the dash works great. The radio by Blauplunct works great - likely not factory original but could be dealer installed. Without making any new holes i installed new underdash speakers. To fit the drivers side i removed the emergency brake switch. Speakers could be installed in a few other places if desired. The emergency brake is included in the sale. If preferred I am happy to install the emergency brake for the new owner at no charge. We can discuss this after the sale. The wipers work great the heater works great the blower motor works in all speeds. The left/right blinkers work great the flasher works great the cigarette lighter works great. All glass is in great shape - the front windshield was recently replaced since the original glass had some pitting due to age. The chrome trim for the windshield is not installed but is included in the sale. I like the way it looks as it is but the new owner can choose to install that chrome trim or not.The previous owner installed the sunroof - which I have seen on one other highboy over the last few years. It works great - it has two buckles and raises and lowers with ease. It does not leak or rattle. it was installed very well. The rear sliding glass opens and closes great and has latch so it can be fully locked. It goes without saying that this is one tough truck. This particular truck has been well taken care of. The underside is very clean. No rust little dirt and all wiring and harnesses where they should be. You may be able to find other 'bumpside' highboys but I doubt you will ever find one that is this original and untouched. The manual steering is not at all difficult to use once driving and turning - in fact it works great. But its not so easy when trying to maneuver into tight parking spots or parallel parking. Sometimes I wear gloves when I drive the highboy in order to better grip the steering wheel during the low speed driving. The original color of the truck was brown on top white cab and white below the body trim. Since the doors and dash were in such good condition - the navajo brown paint is like new - so I decided to not alter the original look of the interior.I have had it for a few years and had it painted by the local MAACO and had the front seats reupholstered I had a new tailgate installed since the original one had a dent in the top of it. I still have the original large aluminum FORD plate that should be mounted on the tailgate - its in one of the photos and is included with the sale. It has new Rancho shocks front to back and new front stabilzer shocks. The sale includes (2) extra sets of tires. One set is the American Racing alluminum wheels and the other set of wheels I was told were original dealer options for ford trucks in the early 70s. I had planned to have these blue wheels powder coated and painted - its a great looking wheel. The wheels currently installed (shown in the photos) are 36" Goodyear Wrangler Military tires. These tires are so tough - i actually haven't needed to add air to them for over 2 years and they ride nice and smooth. I encourage the prospective buyers to read available literature about the highboy - there are a lot of interesting details regarding what defines an F250 as a highboy. In particular interest is the engine. It is a fact that all highboys built from 1967 to 1972 came only with a 360 FE engine 2 barrel carb and manual transmission. There were no exceptions. Highboys built between 1973 and 1977 had a few other engine trans and accessories available. At no charge I am available to personally deliver the vehicle to any train station from downtown LA to San Diego. I can assist in other preferred pickup methods as long as all related costs are payed by the new ownerThis truck is a classic. On the road people get out of your way - there's no need to signal. When parked next to a new Ford Truck this highboy looks much more capable and in my opinion much more cool. On May-25-15 at 10:13:30 PDT seller added the following information:The front bucket seats are from a 1972 ford f350 Camper that i owned a few years ago. They are very comfortable. Front buckets are a rare option on trucks. However if the new owner prefers a bench seat i will gladly install a replacement bench seat at no charge and give the the new owner $250.
