Ford Thunderbird 1957 Description
I am pleased to offer this striking 1957 Ford Thunderbird with factory 312 CI Motor “D-Code Bird” with automatic transmission. VIN # D7FH285203. This Ford Thunderbird is an example of one of the best years of the Thunderbird model run and represents a bygone era of Ford cars that will never be seen again… The condition of this car is very nice and very well presented. The car shows very few signs of age and shows 97000 miles on the odometer. Notable options include power brakes power windows power seats and upgraded Ford-O-Matic 3 speed automatic transmission.I know this owner personally and he has owned and restored 1957 Thunderbirds for over the past forty years. This car is being sold from his personal collection.BODY: This Thunderbird wears the factory correct Dusk Rose paint. All of the body panels are ripple dent and rust free. The paint is in very good overall condition having been professionally restored approximately 10 years ago. There is no checking fading or cracking evident in the finish. The glass and seals are in excellent condition and there are no leaks.INTERIOR: The interior is trimmed in Colonial white. The seating areas are in good condition as are the door panels and dashboard. The carpet was recently installed. All of the accessories including the climate control and power seat are in perfect working order. The owner also has a complete original factory air conditioning system (not installed in the car) that will be included in the sale. The new owner can easily install it in the car whenever he or she chooses. All of the power windows work perfectly. The trunk is in very nice condition the trunk covering is in excellent condition with no rips tears or missing pieces and the spare tire and wheel are in good condition.UNDERCARRIAGE: The underside of the car is commensurate with a well-cared for car. While it has been previously restored a number of years ago and is no longer in concours condition it is in very nice and presentable condition and would be considered a “Driver Car”. A new gas tank has also been recently installed.ENGINE and ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The powerplant in this Thunderbird is the original “D” Code 312 cubic inch motor. It was completely rebuilt approximately 5000 miles ago. All aspects of the motor are in perfect working order and the compression ratios are exactly where they should be. When the motor was restored the owner decided to upgrade the transmission to a three speed Ford-O-Matic. The engine bay was completely restored to original specifications and all components are in operational condition. Every detail of the engine compartment is “FoMoCo Correct” and well presented.TIRES AND WHEELS: The tires are in new condition and do not show any wear and are aftermarket.. The owners does have the original tires and wheels which will be sold with the car. The tires are original size but are radials for comfort and safety.OVERALL DRIVING IMPRESSIONS: This Thunderbird runs and drives as it should – It’s barely broken in! The 312 CI V8 powerplant runs and accelerates smoothly and very quickly and the 3-speed Ford-O-Matic transmission shifts nicely. The car drives around town and on the open road with no squeaks creaks or rattles. It has had all of the necessary service recently performed including oil-change tune up installation of new battery and transmission and differential service. It needs absolutely nothing to drive show and enjoy. All of the mechanical aspects of the car work as they should be.NOTES FROM THE RESTORER/OWNER:- Interior is in excellent condition- Chrome - 85% has been replaced- Stainless has been polished- New tires - New gas tank- New rear springs- New shocks- New Soft Top- Very solid car- Rebuilt motor and trans approximately 5000 miles- Distributor (upgraded to electronic internals) generator and starter rebuilt- #'s matching original per date codes- Have original (not copy) of factory Build Sheet/Invoice PLEASE NOTE: This 1957 Ford still retains all of its original or N.O.S. components! This means the engine rear end etc. are original or correct to the car. All of the numbers markings etc. are correct. It is an original and very special car that as evidenced by condition has been driven very sparingly and properly cared for during the last 58 years… If you are serious about purchasing this vehicle I encourage you to come take a look and drive it. I can also provide you with additional photos of any specific part that you request. You or your mechanic are also welcome to put the car on a lift and perform any drivetrain inspection you wish.
