Ford F-100 1957 Description

In 1957 Ford finally offered an alternative to the stepside truck as the styleside was born. This 1957 truck has the best of both worlds with the cleaner styleside lines & a short bed. These trucks look real tough when lowered with the right set of wheels just look at my photo of the orange 57 (same body as mine) restored & lowered (not a part of this auction!). 1957 was also the first and only yearof this new generation of trucks (57-60) with the cleaner single headlight & inset grill. 1957 was also the first year of the famous Ford 9 inch rear end & only the second year of the 12 volt electrical system. If you are after a 50's Ford truck & are not nuts about the earlier 'bulldog' front on the 53-56 (not to mention the price) then the 57 is the one. The huge 57 engine bay also affords a variety of options for big engines parts are available & relatively cheap at places like LMC Truck Carpenter etc.

This 1957 Ford F-100 was built here in the Long Beach CA. assembly plant & has been here in California it's entire life. The original 272 inch V8 was rebuilt prior to my ownership & runs great the clutch radiator & rear leaf springs were also redone. I do not have any paperwork on these repairs but it is fairly obvious this work was done. Rear leafs are too stiff for my taste but can be de-arched or there are lowering kits & disk brake kits available as well. although it is currently registered & runs drives & stops I still would not consider this truck a daily driver. The 3 speed gearbox is noisy & hard to shift due to it needing to be rebuilt & the drum brakes are sketchy when you need to stop fast. In short brake work rebuilding the gearbox & a new set of tires would make this truck reliable & safe again as it should be.

The prior owner decided to 'freshen up' the truck with an inexpensive tan paint job over the nice Colonial White original color & went with a cloth seat cover & headliner on the original bench seat. There is no accounting for taste I guess but I would definitely have gone with the white exterior again. There are no signs of any major collision repair or major rust repair. Body wise the cab isin great condition with no signs of rust or repair the inner cab steps & cab back corners arevery solid. The bed sides are decent bed floor was covered with diamond plate as it had some rust. Bed floor is available reproduction or you could go with the trick look of a wood bed kit also available for this year. Bottom corners of both doors & portion of hood had minor rust whichwas filled when painted last. Otherwise a very solid truck with far less rust these trucks usually get. There are some minor interior repairs needed such as window regulators / handles & door latch controls / handles. These parts are also available new reproduction.
