Ford Thunderbird 1966 Description
1966 Ford Thunderbird This Thunderbird was bought out of a Southern California estate. The previous owner bought the car about 15 years ago from the original owner, ith 11,000 miles showing on the odometer. He promptly had the diamond blue car painted red with a white top as he wanted a red Thunderbird with a white top. He drove it sparingly as the odometer now shows 19,000 miles. Does it have 19,000 or 119,000 on it? We don’t know. We do know the seats are original and they don’t look like 100,000+ mile seats. When we got the Thunderbird it wasn’t running, o we had it flat-bedded to our shop. All of the fluids and filters were changed out including dumping the fuel tank and flushing the fuel lines and adding a new fuel pump. The radiator was re-cored and we installed a new water pump. In addition to the new Holley carburetor we put in a new distributor and electronic choke. The 390 engine runs great and is tight with no blow-by. The transmission shifts extremely smoothly. We also put in a new alternator and a new battery and new battery and starter cables. The heater works great. They A/C compressor clutch does engage but we did not charge the system. We also got the front door power windows including the wing windows to work as they should. The rear power windows have working motors but need new rollers. Underneath we cleaned everything up. Tightened up all of the pans, nd installed new mufflers and some exhaust pipe. There is some minor rust on the body and some minor surface rust on the frame from being stored in La Jolla. From what we can tell, his car has been in Southern California for most of its life. Being garaged most of its life results in the un-cracked dash, teering wheel and seats. As the Thunderbird sits, t’s a great running example that you could take to local cruises or it will make a great foundation for your next project. This Thunderbird was heavily optioned and has the swing, ilt away steering wheel, ruise control, ir conditioning, ower windows, riginal radio (that works), ower antenna (that works), 1966 Ford Shop Manual, ts side-skirts and original undamaged hubcaps. As you can see in the pictures all of the trim and emblems are present. Also the sequential turn signals work as they should and so do the dash lights as shown in the pictures. The door tag did not come through in the pictures, t reads: VIN:6Y83Z138008 Body:63A (2-door hardtop) Color:N (Diamond blue) Trim:51 (Vinyl - Silver blue with headrest) Date:21A (January 21st) DSO:71 (Los Angeles) Axle:1 (3.00) Trans:4 (3-speed automatic). Car show season is coming and if you want a car you can drive today while making it better tomorrow this is a good one to choose. Remember, ife is too short to drive boring cars. Questions?
