It is truly a mechanical marvel when in operation. We recently sentthis carto a gentleman in Daytona Beach who has worked onlots of these cars for more than30 yearsand had him give it a complete going over. He replaced one of the small switches as preventative maintenanceand recommended a more powerful battery which we had him install. The top works fine...but remember...it should not be treated as a "play toy" Whether your driving the car on a regular basis or only 8-10 times a year...it is probably a good idea to put the top up and down every 6-8 weeks or so.Should you ever need any parts for a 57-59 Ford Skyliner top mechanism, erry Miller in Springdale, K specializes in these cars.It is a verywell optioned car with the following equipment.....352 "H" code V-8 with 4 bbl carburetor (rebuilt in 2011)Three speed Cruise-O-Matic auto transmission (shifts great)Power Steering & Power assisted brakesPower Windows (all work)Power Seat (works)Continental KitSunray Wheel coversPadded DashOutside chrome mirrorsAM Radio (does not work)Clock (works)Floor Mats: Custom made carpeted mats (Medium Blue) with WhiteEmbroidered White Stitching that says "Galaxie 500"Note:They were custom made for this car and will arrive here in South Florida within the next 5 days & will be included with this car.The Chrome FORD plate comes with the car but the Route 66 sign is off a 66 Corvette that is not for sale....I am keepingRt. 66for sentimental reasons...they only cost $10 but that plate has almost 7000 miles of Route 66 memories on it.TIRES: Cushion-Aire Wide White Walls G78/14Four ply Polyester Tubeless (Excellent Condition) Spare is stored under luggage bin. This is a rare and unique opportunity for someone to purchase a very rare and unique piece of automotive history at well below the current market price.Average price for a 1959 Skyliner in this condition in 2015 is $56,704.This car is being offered atMORE than $20,000BELOW the average current price...and here is the reason why.The Gentleman whom we acquired this car had a very nice collection of vintage cars. However, certain change in conditions made the sale of his entire collection necessary. This was the last of the convertibles in his collection (This is a Hardtop Retractable Convertible) He placed this car a few months ago in a prominent vintage car auction whichfeatured it in the auctioncatalog with an estimated expected selling price of $60,000-$80,000.The car was bid up substantially (almost $50,000) but did quite not reach his minimum accepted price of $60,000...so he decided not to accept the bid price. One thing any buyer has to consider when buying a car through an auction house are very substantial auction feesthat areadded to both the buyer and seller...usually an additional 8-10% to both buyer and seller. When we found out that this car was available for immediate purchase, e drove immediately to see the car and negotiated a very, ery excellent price which we are passing on to you. Had he accepted his highest bid at the auction, e would have received a much greater amount than some lucky bidder can ultimately end upwith this car.If you want to know howLOW you can own this beautiful car...pick up the phone and call us at954-873-6495. You will be pleasantly suprisedPlease do NOT e-mail us and ask "What's your best price?" If you do, e will not respond with this information in the form of an e-mail.The Chrome and trim on this car are excellent as is the fit on the doors, ood, indows, opand trunk.Glass is excellent and all the windows work just as they should and fit beautifully. The undercarriage is rock solid with no signs of any rust. These cars were exceptionally well built and have a lot of steel in the frame & undercarriage. The undercarriage is not "show detailed" but is verypresentable. If you choose to "show detail" the undercarriage, nbsp;you'll end up with a "Trailer Queen" and not a car that you canactually drive and enjoy. The rubber trim and weather stripping are excellent. It is evident that this car has always been garage stored since it was professionally restored. If you do not have a garage, do not recommend buying a car like this...or any other fine vintage automobile. The power seat works correctly....it goes forward and backwards...and up & down.Rather than try and get the AM only radio to work, e would recommend hiding a modern AM/FM/Stereo/CD/MP player in the glove box. Most stereo shops can provide a nice, eat installation for $400 or even less.A California based company offers a 1950's period style radio that will fit in the dash without any modifications.Their radios have very modern electronics and are priced from $175-$300. Speakers & installation are extra.INCLUDED MANUALS & DOCUMENTATION.1959 FORD Owner's manual. We think it is an original as it reads inside "First Printing, eptember 1958" and it looks & smells 50+ years old.1959 FORD Dealer's Sales Brochure stamped on cover"Pankow Motor Co. These verify not only the vin number but the mileage as being actual as indicated on the car's odometer.Full colorcatalogue from auction where car was offered for $60,000-$80,000 in January of 2015.SO HOW DID FORD ULTIMATELY CREATE THE RETRACTABLE HARDTOP CONVERTIBLE FOR THEIR 1957-1958-1959 CARS?In late 1948, ord stylist Gilbert Spear developed a concept for a new type of retractable hardtop. He was inspired when he saw aprototype ofBuick’s newRoadmaster Riviera hardtop coupe.Spear’s idea was subsequently developed into a 3/8ths scale model called the SYRTIS. The "SYRTIS"came to the attention of William Clay Ford, ounger brother of company president Henry Ford II and the head of Ford’s new Special Products Division. At the time, ill Ford was planning the car that became the Continental Mark II. He was inspired by Spear’s design, hich he thought would add distinction to the new Continental. In early 1953, ord assigned a team of Special Products engineers, ed by Jim Holloway and Ben Smith, o transform Spear’s concept into a production-ready design. Some of Holloway and Smith’s team suggested splitting the retractable hardtop roof in half (which is frequently done with modern ‘retracs,’ some of which even split it into three sections), ut they opted instead for the short “flipper” section, hich tucks neatly under the rest of the roof in the stowed position. The Ford Skyliner’s rear seat had to be relocated for clearance, ut it lost little if any leg or shoulder room in the process, hanks to clever packaging.

Holloway and Smith’s finished design was a thing of beauty. The whole mechanism was fully automated, equiring only about 45 seconds to open or close. Perhaps the development engineers’ most significant achievement was ensuring that the top mechanism was neatly counterbalanced; relatively little force was needed to move each component, llowing the motors to be lightly stressed.

By early 1954, mith’s team was readying the mechanism for the Continental, esulting in a full-size prototype called XC-1500R.

THE CONTINENTAL THAT WASN’TBy then, enry Ford II and executive vice president Ernest R. Breech were losing enthusiasm for the retractable hardtop and for the Continental program in general. Bill Ford’s cost-no-object engineering approach was proving to beVERY expensive, nd some senior Ford executives doubted that it would ever make any money. Even without the ‘retrac,’ the Continental’s retail price was already approaching $10,000, 100,000+++in modern 2015 dollars, nd a towering sum for an American car of this era.

Bill Ford responded with a marketing survey showing that buyers would happily pay a $2,500 premium for the prestige of the retractable hardtop, ut his older brother and Breech remained unconvinced. (Their skepticism was well founded; despite the Mark II’s high price, ord lost money on each one it sold in 56 & 57)

Nevertheless, ord was reluctant to write off the $2.2 million that Special Products had spent developing the retractable roof mechanism. In November 1954, olloway and Smith began working with engineers at Ford Division to adapt the “retrac” mechanism for the 1957 Ford line. The Ford project was approved in early 1955, bout the same time the Continental retractable hardtop was finally canceled.

The 1957 Ford had not been designed with the retractable roof in mind and adapting it was a challenge, equiring many unique components. Bill Boyer’s styling team had to stretch the tail of the standard Fairlane convertible about three inches (76 mm) and raise the rear deck to allow enough room for the stowed top. The fuel tank had to be relocated behind the rear seat, hile the spare tire went under the trunk floor, here the fuel tank had been. In all, he development and tooling added $18 million to the bill for the ’57 Fords.

So after spending more than $20 million dollars in research, evelopment and tooling automotive history was made in 1957 and car lovers could go to their local Ford dealer and order a fully electric retractable hardtop convertible. Note:$20+ million in R&D spent in 1954 is equivalent to almost $300 million dollars today!

The model run last for 3 years...1957/1958/1959 with the general consensus of opinion that 1959 was the best retractable Ford ever built.

One of the things I find truly amazing is it wasn't until 40 years later in 1997 that Mercedes-Benz built a retractable hardtop model when they introduced their 1997 SLK retractable hardtop.

HOW MANY FORD RETRACTABLES WERE BUILT IN 1959?

Ford produced12,915retractable's in1959and approximately 15% or close to 2000 are believed to still exist. Of those 2000 I doubt if more than 10% or 200 such cars look and drive this nice.

Normally, car of this pedigree, n this conditionis sold to the highest bidder by a Leading Auction Company at prime time on aSaturdayevening. if sold by a large auction house it surely would bring a much higher price...but we really do love the cars more than the money and prefer this method.

Weprefer offering the car on Ebay for many reasons...Just a few are:it saves both each the buyer and seller approx. 10% of the selling price, t gives the buyer the chance to have all of his questions answered and if he or she wishes, o have a inspection before thepurchase is done and even a test drive and most important to us...it makes the entire experience a lot more fun and personal. So take advantage of this truly rare and unique opportunity as cars like this are very rarely for sale....especially at this low of a purchase price. Please pick up the phone and give us a call for our low, ow reserve...or e-mail us atluvdg@aol.comand let us know the best time to call you. However, ut of the U.S. buyers must call us at954-873-6495and please note we are in South Florida and are on Eastern Standard Time.A fewshortvideo U-tubes on this car!We areinserting along with a multitude of hi-definition digital photos, several shortvideosof this car. You can see the top operating up and down, ll the windows going up and down.Wealsotake you for a short drive so you can hear how nice the engine sounds and how smoothit shifts. Also see the carstopping andhoweasily it steers. Please give us a call at954-873-6495to discuss the car and the lowest possible acceptable price but please take time to look at all the videos and check out all the hi-resolution photos.SO WHAT DID WE FIND THAT DIDN'T WORK?SUPRISE!!!! The clockreally works and keepsaccurate time!!!The cigarette liter does not work. Personally I am glad it doesn't but they are readily available should you want to smoke in this classic car.The AM radio is original but does not work. Earlier I made a couple of suggestions as to what I recommend as far as stereo music in a vintage car.We found most everything else to be in working order...including but not limited to Head lights, right lights, interior dash lights withthe brightness fader up and down feature, interior lights when either door is opened, tail lights, urn signal lights, rake lights, ack-up lights, orn, an blower, eater, efroster and wipers.THIS CAR IS VERY,VERYFAIRLY PRICED AND IS CONSIDERABLY BELOW the market value and priced to sell on Ebaymotors! We got a fantastic price when we bought this car and are happy to pass it on to you.The engine oil is clean and was changed according to the previous owner approx.a couple of 100 milesago. One thing you NEVER want to see when checking a car's oil, s a milky white appearanceif you do...... you probably have water in the oil and that can be a serious problem....not the case here.We would suggest youuse a premium fuel.It is also a good idea to add a fuel additive to your tank every othertime you fill up. If you plan on not using the car for 3-4 months or more it is a could idea to add a fuel system protective additive like StabilIf on a smooth level highway and the car is pointed straight ahead, ou can take you hands off the steering wheel and the car tracks perfectly straight.

We checked for any fuel leaksand could not find any. We drove the car to warm everything up to operating temperature and then parked the car inside the garage with newspaper underneath the car. After two days we checked for any oil, as, ater, ransmission, il pan and rear end leaks and none were detected.

This is unusual as most cars that are 20/30/40/50+ years old or older do have some type of slight leakage after running them...not to say that this car won't develop "the drips" in the future but at this time it passes the "drip" test.

Since restored, don't think this car has spent a single night outdoors...so one should not consider buying a car like this unless you have a garage to keep it safe and dry.

I have seen cars restored that looked great for 2 or 3 years...but after the passage of time...various issues began to show up...not the case with this beautiful 1959 Skyliner. The true test of a good top-qualityrestoration is not how the car looks in 1-2 years but how it looks 10-15 later...and this car still looks fabulous.

If you were told it wasrestored a year or 2ago, ou would believe it.

It turns heads and causes a sensation where ever you drive it!

Why not have fun with your money? ...enjoy your life and know that when you wake up in the morning your dollars are still safe in your garage or warehouse and haven't evaporated into thin air

I was privileged to be close friends with the late Jerry J. Moore fromHouston,Texas. Jerry was a Real Estate Mogul and one of the largest owners of shopping centers in the world.

Jerry was also an avid car collector and amassed one of the largest and best vintage car collections on the Planet.

If Jerry told me once....he probably told me over 100 times......"In case you forgot...remember..."You will never see a Brinks truck at a funeral service or a Hearse with a luggage rack at a cemetery!"

Car collecting is a family thing...everyone around the world admires and loves these great vintage and collectible cars.

We have sold cars fromAustraliatoAlaska...FromChinatoSaudi Arabia.....FromManhattantoMoscow....and the hobby keeps growing & expanding all the time.

Collector car insurance is dirt cheap...about $250-$300 a year for a quality collectible like this. and you can also buy full coverage!

They usually require a garage and not more than 2500 miles a year put on the car.

I recommend you only buy a car like this if you have a garage to keep it in.

I always try and look for major flaws and mention them and try to point them out when I see something. If you call me I will go over the car with you in great detail...both inside and out. The couple of tiny flaws are too miniscule to show up in photos...but I'll be happy to point them out.

Your welcome to come in person to inspect this car for yourself...hire anyone you like to come on your behalf....bring your Experts and magnifying glasses........see if you can find anything really negative worth mentioning...we tried and couldn't find anything other than what we stated in the description...maybe you can?

I truly believe there is NO such thing as a "PERFECT" old car or even a late model car that has been driven, E ARE NOT making such a claim.....but this car comes close to perfection...ESPECIALLY when you consider it is Fifty SixYears Old !
