Ford Bronco 1978 Description

1978 Ford Bronco that took me the last 6 years of time to build, rom every pay check being squeezed to my households income taxes over the last three years being burnt up in it. I have about every receipt and invoice . 30+,000$$ invested. Receipt book included, t Started as a clean 1978 Bronco, ery good shape. I scrapped the Dana 44 HP front end and replaced it with a 1979 Ford F-350 snow fighter package king pin Dana 60 front. The axle was in willimantic CT for years it sat on the ground, t was fully rebuilt. From new carrier bearings to 3.54 Yukon gears. To outer bearings and rotors with new dual piston calipers. Axle shafts were disassembled and new u joints installed. Then the lovely time of cursing took place to remove the factory King pins . Upper and lowers all new. From off-road design. The hubs are premium locking hubs from mile marker. From there it has a adjustable track bar, rack bar mount and radius arm wedges all welded to the "used to be dana60 leaf spring housing" now converted to the more comfortable riding radius arm coil spring setup of the half ton trucks. The radius arms were built by Bronco Bob out on the west coast. He takes your factory arms cuts and extends them with 3/16 steel. He then angles the radius arm cap area for better drive line angle and less degree used of radius arm bushings. This radius arm pushes the chassis mounting location of the arms back about a foot. Also improving ride. Chassis hardware suspension hardware all upgrades to grade 8. All yokes are 1350 series, o more 1310 series on the transfer case. You will need a front drive shaft. The rear shaft alone was 520$. The coil springs were custom made to handle the weight of the Cummins. Coil spring specialists custom wound these, nstead of using 460 big block coils that would more likely sag after a few years. These are the choice for supporting the Cummins. Little bowing like bronco lift springs usually do, he lift is 6"s. It has the Bloody Knuckle garage dual shock hoops. Previously same design as Cage off-road new. Doestch baja shocks new. The rear axle was scrapped for a 1996 dodge Dana 70, .55 gears, t has a disc brake conversion done to it. It has a Hellwig rear sway bar almost new, elp in ride quality as well. Along with the disc to disc proportioning valve which is adjustable to set the brakes front to rear where you want. All stainless lines from Toms bronco parts. New flex lines. Getting rid of the 50lb drums alone I'm sure will help in braking. The rear leaf springs are Deaver 6" springs, ewer bushings. The tires are 37x12.50x17s. Almost new, ibs still show. The wheels are D window cragars 17". Basically the drive train was fully built to a 1 ton truck. All 8-lug of course !! It has a used Mishimoto power steering cooler, t works fine. The transmission was built by Standard gear down in Texas, es same shop you read about in Petersons 4wheel and off-road magazine. It is the NV4500. It has the HD input shaft and upgraded 5th gear of course. Connected to the factory but also rebuilt NP205, ew bearings and seals and updated 1350 series output yokes. A high angle driveline disc parking brake and caliper are there for your parking brake. You can modify the factory parking brake cable to work with it or just have a new one made. It has a new billet PTO cover on it to help aid some in cooling. It has the JB conversions twin stick transfer case shifter. Yes you can have front wheel high, ront wheel low, r rear wheel low, f course rear wheel high. Then your normal 4wheel high, wheel low. The adapter to bolt the np205 to the nv4500 is from Advamce adapters. New Lokar throttle pedal, t's the 60s mustang pedal and works way better than the factory bronco pedal and cable, okars cable is Teflon coated inside to help with pressing. The body was pulled and had new poly body mounts out on all the way around the chassis. That was fun! Onto the engine. The engine is a 1996 Cummins, ith a 215 HP P-pump. Added to it it is a Source Automotive compound turbo setup. HTB2 going into a S480. Should be good up to or over 600 to 650 HP. The head was O-ringed by Mass diesel. Rebuilt fully new intake and exhaust springs to handle the 4,000 rpm governor set. The injectors bought from Ducky fuel injection also know as Southern Diesel Extreme. 5x18s. The pump was the only thing I didn't work on. I paid a old friend to do the work. His truck at the same tune on his 12V Cummins was over 600HP. It's at about 18° of timing and rack plug . It has a Billet camshaft with a little higher than stock lift. Again all receipts to prove this. Air moves thru the custom made boost tubes into a massive BD diesel intercooler. Then up into a custom made dual inlet intake. The engine has some dress ups on it. From a aluminum front cover and tappet side cover. To all new bolt in billet freeze plugs. The rear freeze plug has the pressure release hose and fitting that routes or bypasses coolant to relieve pressure. The 12Vs are know for leaking from this plug when you work them. The alternator is a high output 185 amp high out 3G Alternator from FICM repair. Great alternators. It has dual batteries. Exhaust is a 5" down pipe going into a aeroturbine muffler then a 6" diamond eye tip. The Radiator is the super cooler from bronco graveyard. The whole fuel system is new, rom the 33 gallon poly tank to the Schied Diesel draw tube in the tank, o allow the new Air Dog II fuel pump to suck all the fuel it can out of the tank and help to not suck air. The fuel lines are all good year blue fuel hose. The tank has a new sending unit to register your fuel level on the factory gauge. The inlet on the sending unit is now used as a return for the injectors because the draw tube is obviously the feed to the engine. The return for the air dog pump is routed into the filler kneck just like dodge trucks do it. This truck does need some finishing, n no way heavy work. The interior could use a new carpet. The carpet in there is ok it was cut to and removed I did put it back in for pictures. The seats are old 1990s Eddie Bauer seats. The dash was powder coated and looks great. I mounted a CB radio on the ceiling, t looks factory and is angled toward the driver. It also has a good pioneer stereo, t always played the tunes well enough for me and loud enough. I don't believe in ripping radios out of the dash for next owner to have to replace. Newer Grant steering wheel with factory tilt column. The interior in no way is "gutted" but it could use some help to bring it up to par with the rest of the money that was blown on the suspension and drive line. Gauges all work except speedometer is off because of the 37" tires of course. Oil pressure works, long with coolant temp. The alternator still needs to be wired. This truck is very scary powerful. It will be even more ear to ear grin powerful after the cam shaft is broken in and taking the time to tune the P-pump. Right now the truck has its first quarts of conventional motor oil in it with the Hamilton Cams oil additive to help break the cam shaft in. Then I planned on switching it to rotella full synthetic. This truck will definitely draw attention and people wanting to know what's under the hood. I have a complete set of New Isspro gauges. From a tachometer and a boost pressure gauge to the EGT gauge and probe. Yes you need to install them but they are included, ver 500$ in gauges. I never did because I wanted to do it right with a custom gauge cluster or pod I didn't want to rush it and make it look like a hack job. This engine needs these gauges to monitor the investment! The P pumps wiring for the ignition should be finished up, ome electrical tape and zip ties to hang everything up out of the way. The truck of course has been test driven on the road a few times around my neighborhood as well as up to 60mph on a main road by my home. The truck has the factory grill but would need about 70% of the back of it cut off to fit over the massive BD intercooler. I will include the grill but planned on getting a nice billet one from LMC truck. It's thin enough it will fit and provide the protection the 1000$ intercooler deserves as well as the looks the rest of the truck deserves. The body is amazing shape, outhern truck, hy I used this truck for the base of the build. It has been wire wheeled and most of the underneath painted with por15 and then under coated, ith the good stuff made by 3M at 20$ a can. The only area of the floor that has been cut was the passenger side transmission tunnel area to allow the giant 5" down pipe clearance. It was done right. Spot welded in then seam sealed with 3m Sean dealer and a coat of Monstaliner out of the driver and pass side floor board to help on sound deadening. I even had custom Billet Badges cut for it. From the fender badges to the glove box badge to a engine badge that will go on top of the Cummins valve covers. As you can see with the shifter the skull and rose theme was going thru out the build. The badges go with the truck whether you use them or not up to you. The billet machining is just too nice to go to waste.I'm sure I'm forgetting plenty. As I said I have the receipt book, 0,000+ invested. Real builders know they never see their money back. This was a once in a lifetime build for me. It cost a lot including almost my wife ; ) it will be a stupid fast 78 bronco. Like I said when I took it out for its test drives I got the turbos to barely spool, f you like power you will laugh all day in this truck it has PLENTY for a short wheel base lifted bronco! I have a YouTube account you can see its first until start and walk around of the truck. I can send to anyone who asks. From the four corner disc brakes to the compound turbos and all the supporting mods. I didn't build this truck to just GO. I wanted it to be able to SLOW down to and ride comfortably, ence all the suspension work. Thank you for your patience on reading all of this . I just want this truck to find a good home . Buyer pays shipping.
New pictures added. I forgot as I said many things, rom the ATI super dampener to the 24V tappets to the 24V oil pump for higher flow. The last pictures of the truck with the old chrome wheels on it, nd it's original 5 lug axles is just showing the DOM front pre runner bumper that goes with the truck, o there's no confusion. I'll try to keep up to date on adding things as I remember. A lot of time and money invested here .
Thanks
