The 1965 & 66 Mustang is certainly one of the icons of 60's classics and appreciating nicely over time. These cars aren't "outrageously" priced yet and are great fun to own, rive or show.

I am helping a friend sell this car and have put quite a few miles on it and know if well. I have been taking cars apart and putting them back together for over 30 years. My passion is old Corvettes, orsche’s and Mustangs. I have been involved extensively in restorations as well as judging cars at high-end Concour Meets.. I am extremely picky and know what I am looking at and how to describe it to another car guy. If there is something you don’t understand or want to know, lease pick up the phone and call me and I will give you the complete rundown as I know it. Frank 949-310-6262.

This Poppy Red Convertible is a solid rust free Southern California, traight and runs awesome. The car came from the factory with Standard Interior that has been upgraded to the Pony Insert Interior Seats. Also, he trumpet exhausts were added to the car.

The car was built in Dearborn and was garaged in Southern CA for the last 20 years. Prior to that the history is unknown, ut unlikely it ever spent any time in a rust area because the underside and quarter panels in this car look like they have always been in a dry environment. They are nearly pristine.

The current owner has had the car for about ten years and has done most all of the mechanicals during that time.

The body is very straight, ake a hard look at the shut-lines all the way around the car. It does not appear to have ever been wrecked or had any significant body damage. Take a look at the bottom rear corner panel lips that tuck under the car; as nice as you will find.

There is just a small amount of rust at the front corner of the passenger door in the typical spot, t is really small, bout one-fifth the size of a penny.

The paint was done around 2006 and around $7K was spent.

It was a good job and has held up well. It's not perfect but a good 8.8 out of 10. The paint is smooth and shiny, wo stage paint. The chrome was redone at the time and still looks like brand new. The door handles and outside mirror may be original and are not in as good of shape as the bumpers, ut are very presentable.

There were no major dents or even dings in the car, o there was no need for bondo in the car anywhere other than a skim coat before paint. Take a look at the pictures of the underside of the doors where Mustangs are notoriously rusty… they are totally rust free. Bring your magnets and go over the whole car if you like. . . it's solid all the way around. Is it a concour paint job, bsolute perfection? no… but it’s a really nice driver quality paint job that is mirror like in finish. This car would be a great local car show type of car, ut definitely not concour (again, am picky).

The mechanicals on the car are superb. The car starts easily, uns smooth and has plenty of power. It drives straight down the road at 75 mph with no shakes or vibrations. The transmission shifts smoothly and does not slip or malfunction in any way.

Most of the work was done by Al Sparks in San Juan Capistrano. Al is well known in this area for very high quality work. A lot of money was spent on the drivetrain in this car and it runs and drives like a new car. The 302 blows away a 289 from a performance standpoint and Al is big on performance and beefed this thing up to run like a real Muscle Car. The 4 speed overdrive transmission is way better than the original. It gets way better gas mileage than an original setup. The sound from the headers and killer exhaust system is just right, ot too loud and just the right amount of throaty muscle sound, ut certainly not obnoxious in any way. Over $12K was spent on the motor and trans in this car, nother $1200 on the headers and exhaust system. There are less than 15K miles on the car since the complete rebuilt.

Okay, t’s not the original 289… SO WHAT!! get out and drive this car to New York City and back and blow off anyone along the way. This modern 302 and trans set-up is head and shoulders better than an original 289 A-Code with three speed setup.

The AC on this car is TOO cold, ou actually have to dial it back. I am not familiar with the compressor on the car but it looks like it is from Japan, xplains why it works so well.

The car now has a high-end Sony AM/FM CD Stereo with iPod connector.

The undercarriage is very original and basically untouched. It has not been detailed but it is also not hiding anything. The floors are all original and as solid as the day it came out of the factory. The front end looks to have been all completely rebuilt in the not too distant past. The rear brake cylinders were just redone along with the Master Cylinder. The car stops straight and true with authority.

This is a solid driver, ith a rust free body and chassis that runs great. The modern crate 302 and 4-speed overdrive transmission makes this car extremely reliable and fast.

The Interior is solid driver condition, ot perfect but certainly an 8.5 out of ten. Zero tears or rips. It is probably older and therefore not the ultra-cheap type materials that they use today. The seats almost look identical to the original materials that were used. If I had to guess I would say the interior was probably done in the mid 90’s to early 2000’s when they were still using US made materials of a very high standard. The door panels have a few chips on the them and could use a little touching up. The headliner is like brand new. The top is relatively new, he rear window is clear. The power top operates perfectly in either direction.

The steering wheel is not original to the car, ut it is wood and beefy for easy gripping since it is not a power steering equipped car, ut it really doesn’t need it. These cars with a set of radials are easy to steer in close areas and you have much more road feel on the freeway without power steering.

There's just no such thing as an early Mustang that isn't a great car. Fun to drive, ith plenty of power, nd striking good looks, ven 50 years later, nd it's hard to imagine a better hobby car. The strength of the aftermarket suggests that they are some of the most popular cars in history, nd when you see a nicely restored one like this little convertible it's easy to understand why.

If you are in the Southern California area feel free to stop by and check out this nice complete, ust free example. I am in San Clemente and would be happy to show you the car and take for a test drive.

If you are looking for a really fun car with great power to DRIVE and have fun then this may just be the right car for you. Not a trailer queen but definitely a car you would be proud of at any local or Mustang Club type of event.

If you have any further questions feel free to call Frank at 949-310-6262.
