Ford Mustang 1965 Description
This car has a DSO of 62 (Houston) and has lived its whole life here. It was sold to Tipton Ford in Stafford, exas which a suburb of Houston. Here is what the owner told me regarding this nice Mustang.
As the original owner’s manual states the first owner was J.C. Detting and he only owned the car for 2 years and then sold the car to a relative named Mrs. Wertz. She lived in Bellaire, exas (a small city within the Houston city limits) and kept the car until 2006. When she was in her 90’s and unable to drive, he then sold her Mustang. The car was then purchased by the gentleman from whom I bought the car. He has owned numerous Mustang over the years and actually lived in the same neighborhood of the elderly lady who owned this Mustang for so many years. He purchased this amazing Mustang because he know the lady and he knew it also had low mileage. I would be glad to answer any and all questions regarding the ownership history.
As always with my cars, he most important thing is the condition of the floors and under the doors as far as the absence of rust. They are both excellent. You can see by the picture I took of the date codes on the door that even they are ORIGINAL to the car. So no rust AND ORIGINAL doors…..WOW!! There are original date codes all over this car, hich is fantastic. The trunk lid (pictures); the supports in the trunk for the bumpers (pictures); in the engine compartment (pictures); under the grill surround (I forgot to take pictures when the grill was removed); fenders (pictures); even the braces for the cowl have correct date codes. As you can tell by all of the original date codes, his is quite a rare car. Most cars you see out there are made up of a mixture of reproduction parts or bondo buggies.
This is a very well equipped Mustang as it has power steering, ir conditioning, /C, onsole, actory Hub Caps and Factory Vinyl top. I love the way these coupes look with Vinyl tops. To me they look very elegant. As a result of this being such a fantastic car, e restored the interior of the car. As you can see by the pictures, e prepped and painted the steel part of the red doors and installed new door panels, rm rest and arm rest bases. The front and rear seats are original and I have not seen any issue with them at all. This is very unusual for a car to be fifty years old and still in excellent condition. All window cranks and door handles were removed and polished and then reinstalled; so they are all still ORIGINAL FORD.
The instrument bezel was original and since it was plastic chrome we felt we needed to replace it. We always replace all bulbs behind the dash when have it removed so we did this also. The carpet had been replaced before we got this car and it looks great. We removed the console and prepped and repainted the entire base of the console and it looks new again. We stripped down the two top metal pieces and cleaned and rejuvenated the chrome and stripped the black off and repainted it back to original.
We also pulled the rear light assembly out of the console and cleaned and polished it and made sure the lens was good and the light came on. We also polished the end cap on the console so it looked new again. Another item we did was pull the back seat out and then both side panels in the rear. We then prepped the panels and repainted both and reinstalled. It looks really good as you can see from the pictures. The last thing we did in the interior was to pull the face plate off the A/C until along with the A/C knobs and Ford Emblem. All items were restored along with new A/C vents added. Another item we did was remove the original Ford Steering wheel and horn assembly and restore all items and reattach. We also purchased a new trunk mat for the car and a new antenna. The original antenna was 50 years old and showing its age. Other items that have been replaced so far are a new mirror on the driver’s side, ew front bumper, nd new taillight bezels.
The next project for the car is the engine compartment. We have already restored the grill, he pony and corral, he end pieces, he horns and the entire female latch assembly. Where necessary, ll items were bead blasted to bare metal, rimed and repainted. The grill was prepped and repainted with the proper Ford grill paint; which is unique for 1965.
The following items have been replaced on this Coupe:
·Front Bumper
·Headliner
·Trunk Mat
·Windshield Weather-strip
·Back Glass Weather-strip
·Door Panels
·Radio Antenna
·Tail Light Bezel
·Air Conditioner Register

The cost of the parts and installing all of the above items and restoring the those items described earlier is $3,920. This shows how much work was done to prepare this car for you.
If you look at the door tag on the car in the picture you will see that the code for color is K. That means original color that came from Ford was Silver. I was told that when it was painted there was a mistake made and the code was misread or the mixture on the paint was done incorrectly. Whatever happened the fact is that it was a Silver car which is incredible rare. I saw an article by a former Ford employee who had a Silver Coupe. He had access to records that told him that only 3% of total production of was Silver!! It was not THE rarest color but it was certainly ONE of the rarest and most desirable. This is a highly optioned car with Power Steering, inyl Top, /C and A/C console. As I have said before, he floors and under the doors are in unbelievable shape. You saw the pictures of the date codes on the doors and that shows you that this car has its original doors that are rust-free! This is an unbelievable thing!
