Ford Mustang 1966 Description
Here is a chance to own a 1966 Shelby GT350 look-a-like Mustang 2+2 fastback for a fraction of the cost of an original. It not only has all the correct look, stripes, emblemsbut has more power and a number ofhiddenrestomod changes which add value and modern performance. The car sits on correct for the year Shelby 10 spoke wheels (I have the missing wheel center cap shown in one pic),with BF Goodrich tires.(a bit wider in the rear). I have a full set of 17 in Torque Thrust wheels and 50 series tires which will be included with "buy it now". If the car only meets reserve the buyer has a choice of either set of wheels. The suspension has been copiedalmost exactly as Shelby used with things like vintage red adjustable Koni shocks,1" front sway bar and lowered upper control arm mounting point, under ride Shelby style traction barscontrol wheel hop .Slightly lowered with stiffer springs. There are added torque boxes and subframe ties along with Monte Carlo bar and export brace.to achieve a stiffer body structure. Steering is with a modernized Borgeson power steering conversion along with Shelby spec idler and pitman arms designed to speed up the steering rate. Brakes are correct 4 piston Ford front discs with 2 1/2 wide rear drums just like Shelby used. Car has new pads, shoes, rear drums, hardwar, brake and fuel lines and hoses. There is a dual chamber master cylinder for added safety and an adjustable proportioning valve. Stopping is smooth with no pull or pulsing.Power is from a stroked version of the Windsor small block Ford 5.0 engine The roller block has been over bored and fitted with a SCAT crank and ARP big bolt rods and KB forged pistons. balanced and blueprinted. Topped with AFR 185 aluminum heads. AFM n-71hi rev cam and Ford roller rockers..Edelbrock air gap 2 plane intake and 650 cfm Holley DP carb. SFI largefront balancer. Runs well on pump premium gas .The engine is dressed with Shelby cast aluminum Cobra valve covers and the T shaped finned oil pan is another correct Cobra part. Cobra oval air filter or the round open Hipo style are both with the car. I also have a straight Monte Carlo bar for an even more correct look. The engine was dyno-ed at the flywheel with over 400 hp .Engine has power to over 6500 rpm. Ignition is with a vintage Ford distributer with a pertronix electronic unit with adjustable rev limiter hidden inside. Theexhaust is handled by premium Doug's tri-y coated headers and a full 2 1/2 in flowmaster exhaust system exiting below the rear valance as a Shelby did.Power is taken to the rear wheels through an aluminum flywheel and 500 hp rated diaphragm clutch (with cable conversion) Then a 2.95 first gear close ratio high torque T5Z Treme, 5 speed with overdrive transmission. A brand new parts dept. (not recycled) trans. The rear axle is a period correct Ford 9 in with a 3.89 ratio and traction lock.(Posi).Less than 1000 mi on engine and transmission .The car interior is period correct standard black Mustang with added sound proofing under the carpet and wjde Shelby competition style front seatbelts. The rear has the optionaloriginal seatbelts installed. There are new fuzzie strips and weather stripping on the doors. There isa reproduction stereo radio made for the dash without cutting any new holes I have the original radio but don't know if it works. There are no speaker holes in doors and the original trap door to the trunk is intact. Car has the rear fold down seat and good conditiondoor panels. There is a copy of the correct 1966 Shelby tach on the dash and a wood steering wheel just like Shelby used. there is an original bias ply spare and jack in the trunkThe car has had air conditioning installed along with a larger 2 in wider and thicker (new) rad from a 1967 Mustang . The rad cools the car well but being a copper/brass rad looks period correct. The body has the correct Shelby fiberglass hood with steel frame, lighter hinge spring, even correct washer topped front shock tower caps. The side scoops are not only for appearance but the correct hoses have been installed to help cool the rear brakes. The side rear plexiglass windows are installed. The front fiberglass valance is the Shelby style which retains the front bumper. The car still has original floors with no signs of patching or rust. The front fenders appear to be original The rear quarter panels have been replaced with full OEM quarters sometime long ago. The car retains original subframes and inner fenders . I replaced a dented gas tank with a new reproduction several years ago along with the trunk floor drop off sections it mounts to. All glass is intact and the car was painted with base clear several years ago with both front and rear windshields removed, new window weatherstrips were installed. Paint still shines and door, hood, trunk gaps are all very good..All chrome still shines beautifully. The side stripes are correct tape typewhile the hood/roof stripes are painted on under the clearcoat.Car is located in Canada about 120 mi from Detroit or Toronto. It was imported from the Midwest US about 25 yrs ago. I checked with US Customs (CBP.gov) The car can be reimported without any duty as it is more than 25 yr old it is also EPA exempt. I can assist with shipping and delivery to a shipper near Detroit for less expensive US shipping . You could also fly in and drive it home as an item you purchased on your trip.Clear title in hand no salvage issues or branding. The original vin is legible on the front inner fende, original C code fastback built in the Metuchin plant andoriginally soldto the US Midwest.
