Ford Fairlane 1966 Description

This 1966 Ford Fairlane 500 XL is a straight bodied, well running car, with a number of great updated features. And the car has just over 29,400 original miles! Options include an AM radio and power steering. As an XL, it has the floor shifted transmission and a console.
This is a 50 year old car, that has had some mechanical updates, but not as much to the body and interior. On the exterior, the body was repainted to the factory Maroon Metallic color at some point in the past. But there is a rust spot on the right rear quarter panel, just in front of the wheel well. Some very minor rust can be seen in the crease behind the rear window. There are a couple of very small dimples in the roof and hood, but hard to see (and impossible to photograph). The passenger door has some scratches and scuffs. There are several small paint chips on various parts of the car. For the most part, the chrome is pitted. This is most noticeable on the door handles, vent window frames and mirror. The bumpers are straight and solid, but also have some surface rust, in addition to some fine pitting to the chrome. The stainless is original 50 year old trim, as such is in need of polishing. The front grill has a small dent in it. Emblems are original, and in good condition. All of the glass is in good condition.
The engine compartment looks good - the paint has been maintained and/or touched up over the years. The engine does have a pretty minor fluid leak. The pan on the transmission also appears to have a very minor leak. Both seem to be typical of cars of this age.
The trunk is solid, with the original trunk mat. The underside of the car is solid. It appears that it was undercoated quite some time ago, perhaps when new. There is no evidence of rust or any other issues. The frame, rockers, floor pans and trunk pan are solid.
The interior of the car is also all original, in the maroon and beige color combination. The carpet is in nice condition, but is slightly faded. The package tray is faded. The rear seat is quite nice, but both front seats have tears. The headliner has split on one of the seams, and will need to be replaced. The dash has three cracks in it, typical of a car of this age. The metal part of the dash face has some discoloration, and could use a freshening. The chrome door handles, window cranks, mirror and visor hardware are pitted. The front door panels and arm rests are showing wear. The radio does not work (may just need a new speaker), as well as the clock, horn (needs new horn ring and clip), and the dome light. All other gauges and warning lights work properly. All headlights, taillights, & turn signals work properly.
The car has had a number of improvements and upgrades within the past couple of years. This includes: new, larger capacity radiator with a thermostatically controlled electric radiator fan; new 4 bbl Holley carburetor and intake manifold; new master cylinder; front brakes converted to discs; electronic ignition; new air cleaner; new valve covers; new headlights with "angel eyes"; new suspension and front end; sway bar added to rear end; new tires and rims; hush mat installed under the entire passenger compartment and trunk; new Flowmaster exhaust; new battery. The transmission was gone through, and a shift kit installed.
The new rims are 17". The front tires are 215/50ZR17; the rears are 245/45R17. They give the car a great look. The new exhaust sounds fantastic! The car starts and runs very well.
