Ford Galaxie 1965 Description
Hello there, if your looking for an affordable big block four speed car here it is! She's a great project I just don't have the time for.I purchased the Red 65 Galaxie from the Previous president of the Nor Cal Galaxies. The Car was a special order car from the San Jose plant with some really cool options. Ill post pictures of the Door Tag and decode it below. Its a 1965 Ford Galaxie 500XL 4 speed car. It has the Original high performance 390 with S code 4 Barrel intake R code heads from the factory. Being a 500XL it has the upgraded bucket seat console shift interior, as you can see its all there but in pretty rough shape. Complete interior kits are available so this would be the easy part. The car was ordered with AMFM stereo which is also still in place and a shelby style mirror on the drivers door is reported to be installed at the factory. On taking delivery of the car I took it up to Tom @FE specialties in Auburn to go through it and get it running. He gave the engine trans and breaks a clean bill of health completing compression check and tune up at that time. After her visit with Tom she was my daily driver until an electrical short under the dash killed the ignition switch and I just haven't had time to swap in another. The 390Fe runs strong and hauls ass you have to really watch yourself when on the freeway she seems happiest between 85/90mph and will sneak right up there if your not careful.
The body is still largely in original paint. There is rust in the trunk floor the trunk rain channel that the seal goes in and the roof. However the chassis, doors and floor inside the car appears solid. At some point in its life it was converted to automatic but I have verified between the Nor Cal Galaxie club and Tom @ Fe Speacialties that all of the stock pedal mounts and firewall mounts for the clutch are in place this is the genuine big block four speed article! After much searching I was able to locate an original 1965 specific pedals and bell housing to convert it back to a 4 speed but do not have the actual trans.
This is a package deal! The yellow 1965 Galaxie 2 Door Hardtop comes with, and it has a near perfect body no engine trans or interior. I picked it up as a parts car to provide all rust patches and keep the Red car correct. In the Yellow car I have stored another complete set of 1965 500xl door panels with perfect aluminum trim (next to impossible to source) as well as duplicates of the interior and exterior trim to make the red one whole. So other than ordering the interior and deciding if you want to go back 4 speed or upgrade to a 5 or 6 speed manual trans this project is ready and waiting for someone with the metal working skills to complete.
As always I recommend checking the car out in person if possible. I will make every effort to assist in making time for it to be inspected. I am not an expert but as you can tell from the description and the pictures I am being open and honest about condition. if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask!
