Ford Model A 1929 Description
1929 Ford Model A Custom Roadster Located in PORTLAND, OREGON From a large Northwest Ford collection, this car was created in 1986 for the wife of the owner as a car she could drive reliably around town and on tours. Titled and registered as a 1929 Ford Model A. An original Ford frame was fitted with a Wescott fiberglass roadster body and fenders. This is a very nice body that is indistinguishable from a steel Ford body, with the advantages for a daily driver of no rust or rattles and a steel frame rather than wood. Finished with red enameled body and black fenders, it was recently polished and shows nicely today. Please see photos. Black vinyl interior and rumble seat upholstery. Black canvas folding roadster top. Rear window folds up for conversation between the driver’s compartment and the rumble seat. Trunk rack with storage trunk. Working electric windshield wiper. Chrome overall very good with a few small areas of pitting from storage. Nothing big, but I do want to mention it. Clean undercarriage. Please see photos which were just taken for this listing. The chassis was fitted with later 16” Ford wire wheels and Ford 4-WHEEL HYDRAULIC BRAKES. Older Firestone 16" wide whitewall bias-ply tires in excellent condition. There is a matching 16” spare wheel and tire mounted at the rear, and two stock Model A wheels in the fenderwells. Under the hood is a 1932 Ford Model B 4 cylinder flathead engine fitted with a Weiand finned aluminum cylinder head. A stock Model B engine is rated at 50 horsepower (10 more than a stock Model A) and with the addition of the Weiand head, I would estimate this car to produce 60-65 horsepower. Distributer ignition. Stock 3-speed transmission shifts well. Original 6 volt electrical system. Re-wired. All stock Model A gauges work. Turn signals added. Upon completion, this car received very little use and today shows 70 miles on the odometer, which is believed to be total mileage since the build was completed in 1986. The car was stored for the past 30 years in a garage with a large collection of early Fords and it is only due to the recent passing of the 94 year-old owner that the family is offering it for sale. The car has just been fully serviced including new battery, new coil, distributor rebuild, carburetor rebuild, rebuilt hydraulic brake system with new wheel cylinders, and cleaned fuel system. I have personally driven this car over 10 miles and it runs well. It starts easily (even in 18º weather when the photos were taken), runs smoothly and has plenty of power with no smoke. Please see video of engine running. I did note a small drip from the rear main seal. Like all old cars that have been stored, this one will benefit from further fine-tuning by the new owner before extensive use. If you are looking for a fun car that is mechanically ALL FORD and upgraded with added period speed equipment for more power and hydraulic brakes for added safety, this is a nice combination. A reasonable reserve has been placed on this car in keeping with its condition. It could not be duplicated today for the reserve price. (A new bare Wescott Roadster body and fenders alone sell for $10,000 today, not counting the finishing pieces or mechanicals.) Please bid accordingly. WE WILL HAPPILY SELL TO BIDDERS WORLDWIDE.
