Ford Other Pickups 1960 Description
1960 FORD FLARESIDE PICKUPAWESOME – KING OF THE RATS
Offered here is a new build, irst time offered 1960 Ford, hird generation F100 pickup. It is an awesome truck; completely ready to drive or show. I will take you through it step by step with pictures and words. It has many uncommon features making it a one-of-a-kind 'nothing close to it' vehicle. It has a modern drive train with a whole lot of modifications and it is a four-wheel drive.
Third generation Ford F series trucks were introduced in 1957. They were and still are an amazing vehicle, ith great eye appeal. The 1960, ike the one offered here, as the last model year. The widened front bodywork was integrated into the cab and front fenders, aking it the best ever for Ford lovers the world over. The wrap around windshield just added the final touch. Going one step farther the hood wrapped around and met the front fenders with a clam shell design.....so nice. In the rear two types of boxes were offered, tarting a new name convention. The traditional separate fender box was dubbed Flareside, hile the flat side was named Styleside.
NOT YOUR AVERAGE RAT ROD
Far too many 'rat rods' were put together in someone's dirt driveway and are not road worthy, aking them nothing more than an item of conversation. Knowing that the phrase 'rat rod' is a much used and abused description, t is still the best way to describe this vehicle. This one was built with a plan and brought up to a standard. It was made to look like it was sun-baked in Arizona for 50 years and then rescued. It is up to date with a modern drive train and running gear. It is not restored or perfect and it was never meant to be. Yet it is completely ready for show and seasons of fun.
The donor vehicle was a 1988 GMC pickup. The body was slightly modified to fit the chassis. It was slammed to a perfect stance offering a comfortable, olid ride. It has plenty of power, he engine is a 4.3 with an automatic transmission, ower steering, ower brakes and 4 wheel drive. It is mechanically sound. It starts instantly, hifts well and goes through the gears effortlessly. It cruises at highway speeds. There is no shimmy or shake or pull -- at any speed. Take your hands off the wheel and it remains straight. Twin chrome dual pipes, win side mirrors and five chrome caps add to its wonderful look. The brakes are new, he brake lines are new. Right at the top of the list is the four wheel drive and it works.
THE EXTERIOR
This is a solid truck, t looks good; REAL good. The windshield and rear window are brand new. There are turn signals and some 'comment-getting' tail lights. All of the lights work, ncluding the tail lights, ead lights, urn signals, arking lights and brake lights. The wood box is well detailed with metal rails and painted, olor coordinated bolts. The side mounted spare adds a wonderful dimension to the whole truck. The chrome mounted cap hides the gas filler cap. Too cool! This next step takes top prize every time. The thermador or 'swamp cooler' as it is commonly called, tops everyone in their tracks-- EVERY TIME - at every corner, very show and every light. The two tone aquamarine and Corinthian white period finish with tons of patina is something to talk about. Most people love it, ome people do not understand it. This is what classic cars are all about. Love 'em and show 'em. This is an impressive truck. It has a sultry, exy, ugged look. The white tires and red wheels with chrome caps make every part of it on fire and are the perfect match for its slammed stance. Dare to park it next to a million dollar Ferrari and see who gets all the looks.
THE INTERIOR
Inside you will find a brand new period finished seat. It is comfortable and supportive. Adding to your comfort there is a tilt steering wheel and modified 60 Ford dash. The four wheel drive controls are properly mounted and function properly. The floors are bare bones and solid. The Ford emblem sits perfectly on the steering wheel.
I find no reason to do anything to this truck. Enjoy it just the way it is. Since the demise of the trailer queens, hought provoking, eally cool vehicles have increased in value tenfold and are most sought after. Car people finally realize at last that it just isn't any fun to fret and fuss when someone gets just a little too close because just a small dent or scratch can cost thousands.
