Ford Galaxie 1961 Description
If you are looking for a great cruiser convertible this may be for you. If you want a numbers matching show car this is not for you. This Sunliner was saved from a field in Colorado years ago. The man that saved her put a ton of effort and money in to the car but the budget fell short at paint and bodywork. From 15 feet she looks great and I get a ton of compliments. However, upon closer inspection there is slight cracking of the body work over both right side wheelwells. I have a build book on the car and you can see there is little plastic in the car but it was a cheap job and it shows.
Floor is excellent and the trunk floor replaced.
The convertible power top is new and works great.
It has a 352 out of a 66 Galaxie in it that was freshened up. Engine compartment looks great! Engine runs great.
The interior is out of a Thunderbird and is fresh and striking and comfortable. The steering wheel is a bit tight and reminds me of getting in my 68 Mustang. They sell a smaller circumference wheel but once I'm in the car it's fine to drive.
It has a hitch and air shocks on it. The previous owner would actually pull a vintage Shasta camper with it.
Good tires and all turn signals and brake lights work.
All chrome and trim looks great.
Summary: I have many cars of which several are frame off, high dollar restorations. The Sunliner would need new paint and body work to be show worthy. However, you can drive it and park it anywhere right now and have fun with it. To the normal Joe she looks great. To the automotive knowledgeable, she needs some paint and bodywork.
I just drove her 400 miles with the top down and she runs, drives and stops like a dream....no disappointments here.
Sorry to see her go but as I get older the fleet must get smaller. Thanks for looking.
