Ford Mustang 1971 Description
I purchased this Mach 1 a while back when I lived in Virginia. The previous owner was in the middle of a restoration when he passed. I've carried the torch, but she needs a new home.Detail: Look at the Marti Report for all the specs (in Photos). Here's the run down. It's a legit M Code car with the 351 Cobra Jet. This is a 4V motor with a better cam/heads and higher compression from the factory. It also has the desirable C6 trans, not the C4 and a 9-inch rear. If you look at the report this car had all the options. Premium interior, 8 track, high-back seats, foldable rear sport seats and the works. This is a legit Mach 1 with a rare to find motor. I call it the "last of the big muscle" cars. In 72, they "nerfed" all the motors with 2V heads and such (thanks EPA). 71 was the last year of the OG 1st Gen Mustangs.
What I've done: I bought it and you could tell it had been sitting for a while. I put a lot of new rubber in it including engine and transmission mounts. The previous carb was shot, so I put a Holley double pumper in it. Made a world of difference. I also installed and did the following:
1. RPM Performer intake manifold.
2. MSD Coil and ignition
3. Custom 3-inch exhaust with Flowmaster Super 10s and custom tips
4. Hooker long tube headers
5. Rear louvers
6. Engine/trans/radiator/brake flush (every fluid was changed)
7. New battery
8. New wires
9. Fuel float
10. Brake pads and rotors
11. A whole boat-load more and I have an abundance of parts.
What needs to be done: The car is in great running shape. I does need some interior cosmetic refresh. If it were me, I'd do carpet, fix the driver door panel crack, and the temp and oil pressure gauges need to be sorted. I'd also find an original A/C to put on it. Florida summers are no joke.
Overall: I have the original parts including the headers, intake manifold, and air intake. If you wanted to do a full original build, you could revert it and go that way. This is a very clean hard to find car with no rust in good condition. I love the heck out of this car, but other projects, kids, and other responsibilities take precedence. I will not take the time to entertain tire kickers and such. I also know what it's worth and am not looking to unload it do a Hagerty/Nada/Ebay search on what a legit Mach 1 goes for. If I can tell my wife no one is buying, I'm ok with that! Ha! Contact me if you are legitimately interested.
