Ford Mustang 1965 Description

The early Mustang fastback, or 2+2, is one of those rare cases where a car with a fixed roof is more valuable than its convertible counterpart. And this 1965 Ford Mustang GT fastback lives at the top of the early Mustang desirability list, with awesome black paint, a strong-running 289, and the perfect high-performance look that defines the first Mustangs. You know it's got to be straight if it's black, and this car wears it extremely well. There are no ripples or waves and the black is so black it makes other black cars look almost gray. No joke. It shows extremely well and with the red GT stripe along the rockers, it looks brilliant. All the signs point to this being a real GT, although they're notoriously difficult to authenticate, but all the right equipment is there, from the fog lamps to the tailpipe trumpets out back. The fastback looks particularly attractive in black and this one has a predatory look that escapes most early Mustangs; it's like the evil twin of the pony car family. Beautiful chrome bumpers, bright stainless window moldings, and a proper GT gas cap all add up to a car that attracts more than its fair share of attention out on the road. The brilliant red interior offers an upgraded set of high-back buckets that still manage to look like they were born there. Red-on-black gives it a certain upscale look and the buckets have a comfortable look that's quite inviting. The materials are recent, including the red carpets and door panels, and the wood-rimmed Shelby-style steering wheel looks awesome. A center console adds to the Mustang's sporty feel (they always feel a little naked without it) and GTs got the five-gauge panel in a black "camera case" fascia that looks racy. The gauges inside are modern dials from Dakota Digital and you'll note that A/C has been cleverly installed under the dash so it stays out of sight. A newer AM/FM/iPod stereo sounds great with new speakers throughout the interior and a tilt column and power windows help it feel quite modern. The 2+2s had fold-down rear seats, which also makes them practical, with enough room for all your gear on a road trip in the beautifully finished trunk. This is a real-deal A-code car, and the 289 cubic inch V8 under the hood sports a 4-barrel carburetor, just as it should. The rebuild was done by Spokane Performance and runs superbly, nicely detailed with polished aluminum valve covers, a finned air cleaner, and chrome Monte Carlo and export braces. Even the A/C compressor was polished and there's a big aluminum radiator up front. It's linked to a 4-speed manual transmission and an 8-inch rear end with 3.00 gears inside, so it's an easy highway car and still plenty punchy around town. A new dual exhaust system with an X-pipe and Flowmaster mufflers gives it that traditional Ford V8 sound and the floors are in great shape despite not being undercoated. The front suspension has modern components, coil-over shocks, and a rack-and-pinion steering system, while the rear is suspended on original leaf springs. Big 17-inch Halibrand style wheels are an awesome Ford performance look and carry 235/45/17 BFGoodrich G-Force radials all around. This is one of the nicest GT fastbacks we've ever featured. Great colors, strong mechanicals, and, of course, the big performance look. Hard to go wrong here. Call today!
