The jaw-dropping rig on offer here is the product of a visionary street-rod builder with 50 years in the collector and custom car business and a long history of top-place show awards. He’s well-known regionally but not looking to promote himself,though his name is available to prospective buyers. What does promote itself is his latest creation, a feat of mind-blowing style and engineering that attracts awestruck attention and also looks incredibly cool and unreal gliding along a two-lane country road.


What adds to the striking effect is what the truck is transporting — a color-matched Indian Chief replica. The “Super Chief” prototype was created by Kawasaki with the assistance of Indian legend Floyd Emde’s son. The modern day production Vulcan Drifter has accumulated only 8,000 miles and is a tribute to the 1948 Indian Chief. Classic styling married to current technology makes for a powerful road machine and a superlative long distance cruiser.

The truck: Built on a modified AA boxed steel frame with a reproduction roadster cab from hot rod body company Westcott, the builder’s brainchild was painstakingly pieced together over a 13 month period and when it first rolled out of the garage and into the daylight onlookers stopped in their tracks. a thumping Buick 401, this Model AA transporter conjured from a wild dream had come startlingly to life. From the custom-tweaked taillights to the subtle blue shields of the front bumper, this truck is a marvel of fabrication and ingenuity.


Start with the outrageous twin axles, both powering their own set of dual wheels. The builder’s choice for the fantastic double differential, eight shock, four caliper rear suspension was the tried-and-true Jaguar 3.31 limited slip rear end. Turning the axles in unison is an ingenious arrangement constructed of a massive jackshaft, big gears and heavy-duty blower belts. With about 2000 miles on the truck, the set-up has proven itself, though just so you know, the owner hasnever tried to light up the four rear tires.


At the front, a Super Bell 4” dropped axle with Super Bell hairpins. Front disk brakes, monoleaf spring.All suspension components are deeply chromed.Dayton wire wheels mounted with 245/50/16 Bridgestone Potenzas. The rear brass knock-offs are engraved with a special message befitting this one-off truck (see photos).


Now to the bed carrying system. With the pull of a chrome lever in the cab, the truck bed tilts up hydraulically and the independent center section slides gently down to contact the ground. A 2500 lb remote control winch hauls the motorcycle into position and the bike is strapped down. The center section then slides back into place and the bed lowers itself. The entire assembly rides on rattle-free teflon mounts.


For motive power, the Buick Nailhead big block inhales through dual Edelbrock four-barrels bolted to an Offenhauser high rise. The exhaust exhales through custom chrome Patriot headers and two 30” steel pack resonators to exit twin slash-cut tailpipes. TH400 transmission. Rack and pinion steering (non-power at this time). Power brakes. Model AA radiator with new tank and core. Custom aluminum 12 gallon gas tank.


Paint: Truck - Buick Blue, custom mix, base coat finish. Motorcycle - Yellow Rush, base coat + clear. Indian graphics on the doors by Mitch Kim.


Body: 1928-29 Model AA steel front fenders. Originals, never any bondo. The grill was cut-down 2” to achieve a slightly lower lever than the aluminum air intake, which in turn is a little lower than the cowl, giving the truck’s profile a subtle slope nosed effect. Expert handiwork abounds. There are custom body panels to blend the rear quarters to the truck bed, custom aprons to blend the custom running boards (extended 2’), custom brackets blending the rear bed sheet metal. Ona lighter note, colorful twin toolboxes are mounted to the running boards.Headlights are a vintage pair of Trippe Speed Lights on a chrome cross bar. These sought after running lights from the 30s and 40s can be fine-tuned with a level in the top of the housing and lend this singular Dually truck exactly the right touch.


Interior: All new and custom created. Quality vinyl seating, wool carpets, stainless steel tilt steering column, full Dolphin instrumentation in a 1932 repro Ford dash. The Hartz cloth convertible top is removable by releasing four fasteners. The flatbed, likewise, is resplendent in matching Hartz cloth.


Awards? In its short career (two years) the truck has won Best in Class at the 2015 Portland Roadster Show, Troutdale Cruise In Sponsor’s Choice Best in Show, and the Good Guys 2017 30th Northwest Nationals Trick Truck Corral Pick.
