Ford Model A 1929 Description
Model A Fords have been getting flathead V8 transplants, h, ince about 1932. This 1929 Model A roadster has a fantastic look, lmost original with its vintage paint, ut the lowered stance and open hood sides show off the fact that this is much, uch more than your average roadster. The colors are Rose Beige with a darker Seal Brown belt molding, nd yes, hey're original 1929 Model A colors. They actually look fantastic on the vintage roadster and while it's not perfect, t is quite remarkable that the finish was done in the early '70s! With that in mind, t has a fantastic old-school look and just the right patina that says this car has always been loved. Almost all the bodywork is stock, ith only the hood sides removed to show off the hardware inside, nd the classic Model A shape looks even better here with the lowered stance. We also really like the dropped headlight bar that gives it a sportier look that's more aggressive than stock, ut the change is subtle, oo. Black fenders and splash aprons were the only choice on a Model A and it always looks right. The radiator shell is chrome instead of nickel, o it's easy to maintain, nd accessories include dual taillights, owl lights, ind wings, nd a split rear bumper. The interior looks far more upscale than the original roadster's plain brown leatherette, eaturing two-tone upholstery with contrasting orange piping, ll of which echo the car's exterior colors. Things like a tilt column and a modified bench seat make it easy to get comfortable behind the wheel and carpets on the floor help control noise and heat. The original Model A dashboard remains in place, ugmented by a custom engine-turned panel underneath with all the extra gauges you'd need, lus a column-mounted tach. A dirt track style steering wheel wrapped in leather is a period-perfect look and there's a Lokar shifter on the floor. There is no radio, ut you could easily install one, s the speakers are already in place. This A also includes a rumble seat that has been upholstered to match and makes it a 4-passenger vehicle and there's even a brand new convertible top with side curtains for inclement weather. For power, here's nothing like a vintage flathead V8. Forget small block Chevys, veryone has one of those, he flathead is the right choice. Wearing a Holley 4-barrel carburetor, delbrock heads, n Offenhauser intake manifold, nd with a mild Crane cam inside, t's a fantastic runner that still has that distinctive flathead character. It's nicely detailed with polished heads and a few chrome dress-up pieces that look great with the open hood, nd with a big aluminum radiator, t doesn't suffer from flathead fever. It's linked to a 3-speed automatic transmission and an 8-inch Ford rear end with 3.23 gears inside, o it's an easy cruiser that makes the most of the flathead's torque. The front suspension is a traditional I-beam axle with a disc brake at each end, hile the rear sits on a 4-link with coil-overs. A custom dual exhaust system with glasspack-style mufflers sounds totally traditional and the Torque Thrust wheels and fat Uniroyal radials help with the old-time vibe.Nicely documented and fully sorted, his is a fantastic rod with enough tradition baked in to make everyone happy.
