Ford Galaxie 1968 Description
For sale is an original numbers matching 1968 Ford Galaxie 500 Fastback, real deal "Z" code car. Built on May 8th in Los Angeles, California, and resided in southern California its entire life until August of 2015 when it came to New York, where it was garaged and never saw inclement weather. Numbers matching with original Z code big block 390 ci V8 4V engine, C6 automatic transmission and 2.75:1, 9 inch rear. Power steering and power disc brakes. Lights, wipers, directionals, heat and A/C all work, however A/C needs a charge. Factory AM radio does not work, however I've run an auxiliary jack so my ipod can play through two 6x9's in the back deck. Clock and horn both work sometimes. I'm confident that the clock only needs its terminals cleaned to make work all the time. Horn didn't work when I brought the car, but when I changed the steering wheel it was working, when I tightened everything up it stopped again, I didn't feel like pulling the wheel again to investigate.I've done a ton of work to the car to make it reliable. The car runs great and I would drive it anywhere.
ENGINE: The engine runs great, however I pulled it, completely sealed it up and painted it. I had to disconnect the A/C, which is why it needs a charge. While it was out, I replaced the timing chain and put on a new high flow water pump. I also installed a new oil pump and pickup while the pan was off. I put on a new Holley carburetor, new idler pulleys, new starter, new fan clutch, new radiator, thermostat, all new belts and hoses. I did tune-up, including switching from points to electric ignition.TRANSMISSION: I pulled the C6 and had it rebuilt.REAR: I changed the fluid in the 9 inch and sealed it up.I further replaced the gas tank with a new one, went through the brakes and installed four new shocks. All new exhaust, with 2 1/4" tubing, H-pipe and Flowmaster mufflers. I also put on 4 brand new Goodyear tires. The car is ready to go. The interior needs to be cleaned up a little. I replaced the headliner, replaced some weather stripping and installed a plastic cover over the cracked dash. There are a few different shades of blue in the interior.
The only thing the car really needs in my opinion is new paint. The car is from California, so its dry and pretty clean, but it has, in my opinion an amateur paint job. It appears to me to have been painted outside. There are imperfections in the paint that won't show up in pictures. Like I said, its a twenty footer. The trim is scratched and dinged, but it is nearly 50 years old. I put up a lot of pictures, so ask questions if you have any.Ebay message me or call me, my cell is 718/530-4956, my name is Bill. Calling me directly is the quickest way to get me. If I don't answer, leave a message and I'll get back to you. I encourage you to come see the car. Shipping is the buyer's responsibility, but I'll of course make myself available for the shipper and help him load. The car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early. New York State doesn't issue traditional titles to cars built prior to 1973. The car will come with a NYS DMV issued transferable registration and a bill of sale from me.
