Ford Galaxie 1965 Description
1965 Galaxie 500 XL 2 door fastback
Canadian built in Oakville, Ontario.
Came to Portland Oregon by way of Vancouver B.C.
Original 390 with factory 4 barrel carburetor and original automatic transmission. The motor smokes but runs smoothly, the carb is temperamental, and the transmission shifts fine.
89,960 on the odometer. This is assumed original mileage, but ultimately I have no proof…
Original white interior with center console shifter and bucket seats (driver’s seat is powered and works). Power windows; all working except rear passenger which just needs a switch, I think, as I tested the window motor years ago and it worked. The original white vinyl interior is nice with no major tears or rips. The armrest pads are cracked but the rests themselves are solid with no cracks. All interior lights work. The headliner is solid, does not sag, and is clean with just a few scuffs here and there.
New brakes all around -master cylinder, wheel cylinders, and shoes. The drums were turned, too. Wheel bearings repacked. A new water pump was just installed as well.
Newer shocks and Quickor anti-sway bars front and rear. Aftermarket Magnum 500 wheels with newer Les Schwab Grand Prix tires with lots of tread. The tires are basically new.
The body is straight with no known rust issues. The paint is not original and not perfect (some stippling in a few places, but looks pretty good with minor chips and scratches here and there and one small dent/scratch to the right rear quarter-panel . All exterior trim and emblems present, all chrome in good shape. The frame has some rust here and there, but does not show signs of rusting out. Much of the underbody still has what I have been told is the original undercoating.
What I know it needs:
-New Idler Arm
-Eventually the motor and transmission need to be gone over and rebuilt. This was my original plan…
I bought this car in 2002, and it was my reliable daily driver (literally) until 2008 when I decided to put it in storage (it was garaged for most of the time I’ve owned it). Now due to other needs it’s time to sell. This car is perfect for someone who wants a nice daily driver.Or, for an enthusiast with a mind for restoration, it would be a great project.
I can supply more photos upon request.
