Ford Mustang 1971 Description
1971 Mustang Mach 1
Well, there comes a time that we must face the fact that not all projects will get done. I have a 1971 Mustang Mach 1 in need of a total restoration or sold for parts. I took it off of the road 10 years ago to do the resto with my son but it only sat there and rusted. I know that my daughter would love to get it out of her driveway.
It has a 351 Cleveland motor with 4v heads, Holley 4 barrel on an Aluminum intake, top loader 4 speed and an open 9 inch rear.
The body is straight but needs rust repaired as seen in the photos. There are new door skins that come with the car and a few other parts.
The floors are rotted, which is normal for these cars, and it needs other rust repair in the suspension. The trunk floor is solid.
The car ran decent when I parked it but a rabbit decided that he liked the taste of the spark plug wires while it sat there and I never put on the other ones that I have. (A couple of photos are older and show the pre-rabbit engine.) I had planned on doing a rebuild on it before running it again and you should too.
The transmission had lost the 4th gear synchro years before but it was easy to double shift into that gear so it wasn’t going to be worked on until the motor came out.
The interior is complete but will need to be redone. It was originally an air conditioned car but all those parts are gone.
The wheels are free so that the car is able to be put on a trailer or rollback. I don’t know if I would trust dollying the car after sitting this long.
This car is salvageable but don’t kid yourself, it is not going to be a weekend job. It could also be a great parts donor for another mustang or other car that is in need of a drivetrain.
Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer and the car will need to be removed before the end of June so that I can get my 67 GTO out of the garage and to the body shop.
