GMC C10, Custom 10, 1500 1969 Description
1969 GMC Short bed truck. Rebuilt 350 motor and rebuilt 350 turbo automatic trans. Motor and transmission have less than 500 miles on them since rebuild, motor was ran around 3 hours total with the last time being about 45 mins at all RPM's on a motor stand prior to putting in the truck. Motor is 350 with flat top pistons, stock heads, rv cam, noisy gear drive, alum intake, headers, brand new summit 650 cfm carb, brand new radiator in truck, most of the parts on the motor like water pump and alternator are new, some things are in good used condition that I had around the shop, new battery, brand new Hurst floor slap shifter. No leaks or rattles, motor runs at 160 degrees running down the road and about 170 degrees at idle for extended time, would drive it anywhere.Truck has been lowered 5 inches in back and 2 inches in the front. Back was lowered when I bought the truck, leaf springs due to this being a GMC, it appears someone removed a spring or two to lower the rear, I installed two inch drop springs to the front to make it set level, rides well for an old lowered truck.Truck is multiple colors and even though still in builder stages could be driven everyday as is or with a quick primer job to make it all one color. Truck is different colors because it was built using parts from several other trucks to make it the straightest and most rust free, there is no rust in it at all except the passenger side front fender at the very front lower part. This is as common a place for rust as the rockers and cab corners for these trucks due to the battery being above it. I simply forgot to buy the patch panel and fix this rust issue when I was doing body work, it is probably less than $50 and a half days work to fix, I may end up doing it prior to a buyer picking it up. I replaced the rockers and cab corners with brand new ones and replaced any rusty panels with used ones in good workable condition. The truck is solid with no rust, floor boards are solid, area around drip rail is solid, all the normal rusty places in these year trucks has been examined and fixed if needed other than the previously mentioned front fender.Front end has been changed to disc brakes and front and rear end are both matching 5 hole chevy pattern. Ball joints and tie rod ends are good, drivers side has been replaced recently, but was done when I got the truck so I do not know what all was replaced or why.
Truck has flow master mufflers cut off behind the cab and is fairly loud with sound of exhaust and gear drive. Really solid and neat old truck that is ready to use the way it is or very good start for show build or nice every day driver. I have the headlight and taillight bezels, original chrome, in original fair condition, usable like it is or with a primer job, but would probably need new ones or these to be re-chromed if you plan to paint the truck. Grill, bumper, and under the hood has been sprayed gloss black with cheap Summit paint, I was going to flat black the truck and add A/C before I sold it but need the money worse than I need to spend more on it. Bought this truck to put a motor in and clean up a little and sale, I have drove it a few times and not had any trouble, but I can not say I drive it everyday, just here and there when I have time to make sure all is in working order. It starts easy and choke works as it should. The rearend is fairly high geared, but truck still has plenty of power, a set of lower gears would really wake it up.
Please know that you are looking at, bidding on, or purchasing a 40 something year old truck that has had some attention and is mechanically sound, but it is still at 40 something year old truck with a new motor and transmission, it may have problems I do not know about, but I have fixed everything I am aware of and it is currently mechanically sound. I own a 69 Chevy I rebuilt from the frame up and completely restored and put a lot more money and time in than this one, either one of them might run and drive fine today and tomorrow have some random problem come up, please know that when you are considering this truck. I rebuilt the motor and have rebuilt millions of small block Chevy's, but I am not a professional mechanic nor do I have a mechanic business or any formal mechanic training, this is something I do on the side for extra fun and extra money, but the motor has been in the one I personally own for over ten years with no issues. The transmission was rebuilt by a professional shop, but has no warranty and was provided by the person I bought it from and I do not even have the information for the shop anymore. I have had this truck for 2 years and just slowly worked on it to get it in the shape it is now.
