GMC Other 1972 Description

Up for auction is a rare completely original un-modified 1972 GMC K1500 SWB short wheel base 4X4. This is a real deal GMC SWB 4X4 with the original glovebox sticker (115 wheelbase), VIN plate and VIN on frame that all match. All original paint and body panels other than the tailgate. Original drivetrain. Completely original down to the original spiral shocks and 16 inch 6 lug wheels with bias-ply tires! The truck needs a full restoration but well worth putting money into since it is completely original. What you see is what you get with this one since nothing is hiding beneath prior repairs. This truck is about as pure as they come! Restore it or leave original and enjoy they way it is. The truck has spent it's entire life in Alabama until 3 weeks ago and was a true barn find. 2 owners.
Cab: No rust in floors, body mounts or inner rockers. Minor rust in rockers, pinhole in driver's cab corner and passenger cab corner rusted. Firewall is clean with no rust. Windshield is cracked. Un-cut dash.
Fenders: Drivers fender is dented in front and passenger has rust in front and bottom rear. Passenger inner-fender rusted beneath battery tray and in front from mud sitting in lower fender.
Doors: Original sticker on driver's door. No rust in outer skins but has rust on both sides in inner lower structure which patch panels are available so you can use the original doors. No cracked sheet metal on upper inner by window which they all seem to have. Worth fixing the original doors since rust-free 72 doors are hard to find and hear the reproductions don't fit well.
Bed: Nice bed. No rust in supports. Has some dents/dings. A small rust hole behind passenger real wheel in lower lip. Some pinholes behind driver's rear wheel in lower skin. Bed floor nice other than some pinholes where the spare tire had been setting for years towards the tailgate end. Tailgate is rust-free but has dents and dings and not original one to truck.
Hood: Original hood was damaged at same time as fender as you can see in pictures. An extra good hood is included with the sale. I replaced the grill and bumper with used ones since they were damaged at same time.
Drivetrain: Original drivetrain. 350 V8 with 4 barrel carburetor, 3 speed manual transmission and 3:08 posi differential. Motor runs well with excellent oil pressure and doesn't smoke. Transmission functions properly as does clutch. 4wd with lockout hubs. It amazingly does not leak fluids in the garage. Originally column shift but was switched to floor-shift by previous owner.
Wheels and tires: Original 16 inch 6 lug steel wheels with bias-ply military style tires. Tires are very dry-rotted but hold air.
Interior: The interior has definitely seen better days. Even though the seat cover is very worn the seat foam is in excellent shape. Original radio. Dash has not been cut to accommodate an aftermarket radio or gauges. Gauge bezel is in good shape. Original sticker on glovebox door. Dash pad and steering wheel in poor condition. Sun visors and door panels in good condition. Whether it is one tear/crack or real poor condition the interior would be replaced either way when doing a restoration.
Registered in Alabama but currently located in Leawood, Kansas. Bill of Sale only since Alabama did not issue titles until the mid 1970's so this truck was never issued one. Will include copy of registration with bill of sale to be presented when you register. Please ask all questions prior to bidding. You are encouraged to inspect the truck prior to bidding since there are surely features or imperfections I missed inadvertently in my description and it is a 44 year old vehicle. The truck will need to be transported since the tires are very dry rotted and a full mechanical inspection done since it has been driven very infrequently in the last few years. $500 deposit within 48 hours of auction close unless other agreements have been made prior to auction close. Payment in full within 7 days and truck picked up with 14 days of auction close unless other arrangements agreed upon prior to auction close. The truck is being sold "AS IS WHERE IS" with no warranties offered or implied and all inspections must be done prior to bidding not after-the-fact. Buyer responsible for all shipping costs and arrangements. I will cooperate with your shipper of choice. Payment by wire transfer, cash in person or cashier's check which must clear prior to taking truck. Mark (913)909-1186
