VERY original,
VERY good condition,
VERY low mileage.
(Plus,VERY shiny, andVERY good looking).
..... Just a great all around little pickup.
We are the 2nd owners of this truck, and purchased it from the estate of the only other owner.
It was indoors kept always. This truck runs SO NICE. It drives, and looks excellent too. It is nearly silent when running. I've never heard a quieter engine.
Although the paint was absolutely remarkable, I had it professionally wetsanded and triple-stage polished to an absolute mirror-like finish. This includes the inside of the bed. Nobody can hardly believe an original 1978 GMC paintjob can look this amazing! It shines deep and is glass smooth.
The vehicle odometer reads 23,544. The speedometer is in both M.P.H. and Km/h but, the odometer is kilometers. Translated, this is equivalent to precisely 15,185. Since, it has turned over once, the exact mileage is 79,685 miles. Although this is very low to begin with, I'd never guess it had more than half that mileage. It really is in overall astonishing condition.
When we discovered this truck, the last thing we needed was another classic vehicle. Since it was impossible to pass up, we searched for any excuse to purchase it. I'll spare boring you with the lame excusemy wife and Imade to bring it home with us. Since we've had it we've taken it for short drives, to shows and absolutely loved it. I've honestly probably spent 10x longer polishing and shining this truck than we ever have behind the wheel. It looks great. You'd never believe the compliments. We have a LOT of classic cars and, I've got to say, this little truck gets just as much praise as anything.
These old square-body pickups used to be some of the most common vehicles on the road. Now, they're nearly gone. Nearly everyone's Dad or Grampa had one of these. They're still out there but, most have been repainted, restored,or "fixed up" to somebody else's taste. Usually they've had all the classic moldings stripped off for a dated early '90's look, or some other atrocity. They're quite rarely seen in this particular condition, mileage, and originality.
If you've watched any collector car auctions, you know that one of the quickest rising segments has been restored-to-original vintage pickup trucks. This is even better.... an unrestored original. These are called "Survivor" vehicles, and are easily THE FASTEST RISING SEGMENTS of the vintage vehicle hobby. If I could think of a way to keep it, I would. I think it's a good investment.
Unfortunately (and somehow at the same time fortunately) for us, we are downsizing and moving. Even as such, we're keeping a select few of our oldies. One is another squarebody, such as this one, butin 2-tone brown and beige (a classic '70's combination). I wish we could keep both but, alas..... here we are.
I think this is a great LITTLE truck that will bring somebody a greatBIG smile.
