Jeep Wrangler 1988 Description
1988 Jeep YJ Wrangler 4x4. 4. 2L inline 6 engine. 5 spd manual transmission. Has the hardtop. It has a pretty recent 4" lift with correct drop pitman arm. new shocks. shackles. etc. Has the manual 4x4 differential locker mod to fix the problematic original vacuum one. New Pro Comp Alloy 15x10 wheels and All Country Radial LXT 31x10. 5R15 tires. Many other brand new parts: new carburetor. new ignition. new battery. new alternator. new distributor. new front and rear U-joints. new motor mounts and new transmission mount. The floor has even been sprayed with Line-X. No rust in the floor or frame at all. The motor runs great and its ready to go. The bad would be it needs the transmission crossmember repaired (see pics). Two of the three bolts have broken off the drivers side (common occurrence) so its got a vibration in the transmission at certain speeds. Someone tried to weld it before the motor and transmission mounts were replaced so it didn't hold. Its definitely driveable but it needs to be repaired before it gets worse. If you plan on using it on the interstate it will also need new differential gears to match the larger wheels and tires. 5th gear is pretty much useless. It currently tops out at about 60-70 mph. There is some rust on the body. Two spots in particular (see the pics). A few other minor things. some of the gauges work intermittently. Some of the weatherstripping needs to be replaced around the windows. The glovebox door has broken off and will need repairing or replacing. The seat covers could use tightening up and the rear hatch needs a new handle. That's it. All the hard stuff has been done. Tons of money has been put into this thing. The rest is up to you. Great 4x4.
