Jeep CJ 1981 Description
4 Sale, One of the nicest still factory original equipped Jeep CJ 5 on this planet. Jeep retains all it's original Jeep running gear 35 years later. Jeep is rust free and "un molester". When you open the hood and look at the motor you will see the motor retains everything in place 35 years later. Even the original factory smog equipment still in place on the motor ( that's rare ). The Original Motor still retains original valve covers, original exhaust manifolds, original intak, original factory motor craft carb.. Original factory air cleaner with all hoses and heat riser vent in correct working order. The factory A/C is "complete" and still in place. You just don't find many rust free 35 year old classic CJ that still retain all parts or correct oem replacement parts under the hood. * Jeep is smog exempt in most states due to being 35 years old! * But all the factory smog equipment is on motor if you live in a state like (California) that still requires smog check on 1981 vehicles. This Jeep is very rare being so rust free and original. Rare because it's complete and uncut. Rare because everything in it and on it "works correct" 35 years later = SEE VIDEO. Jeep shows 97,000 original miles on odometer and the odometer and speedometer both work. Not bad for a 35 years old vehicle! Current Title also showing " original miles". With that said, everything on this Jeep works correct and it runs and drives very nice. I did not have to rebuild the motor because it did not need to be rebuilt ! Motor runs outstanding will cold start and idle like a new motor out of the box! No motor rattles, No valve train tappet or lifter noise, No timing chain slop or rattle, No bottom end noise, No Exhaust smoke. The exhaust burns clean = SEE VIDEO. Motor is very tight and runs strong. No lack of power or performance in this Jeep! Thinking maybe sometimes in the past 35 years a prior owner had it rebuilt. Because it runs outstanding like a lower mile rebuilt motor would. Very quiet motor with very quiet exhaust "really makes this Jeep a joy to drive." = SEE DRIVING VIDEO. Jeep runs, good oil pressure 40 to 50 lb oil pressure at 180 deg water temp. I removed the oil pan to replace the rear main seal. Motor had a very small leak at rear main seal. " replaced rear seal and pan gasket new . Replaced front timing chain seal at the same time. Good to go! Yes installed new water pump and hoses before I put it all back together. Items not bad - but new is always better when you spend the time putting it back together. Motor was clean and cosmetically detailed so it looked nice with you open the hood. Motor bay also cleaned and detailed =SEE PHOTOS. The radiator was flush and new coolant added after new heater core installed. All the 4 wheel drive parts under Jeep work great. Replaced rear end pinion seal - also had very small leak "I don't like leaks on my garage floor". All the bottom side running gear serviced - it's ready to roll. Everything on this Jeep that has been replaced or repaired as needed has been done with oem parts to keep Jeep as pure and original as possible. In my option ( this 35 year old Jeep CJ5 is Classic History at it's best). it's very hard to find them this complete and original. I have owned and been driving classic CJ 5 and CJ7 for over 40 years. This Jeep CJ ranks at the "top of my list" in look's and reliability! The inside of Jeep was gutted and the "original rust free floor pans" then treated in black Raptor Armor to keep inside nice and scuff free for many years to come. = SEE PHOTOS and VIDEO. The Body of Jeep is all original metal. " No fiberglass body replacement parts" No rust repairs required when body was being prepped for paint. The original rust free body was outstanding, all original Jeep and "uncut" . The original paint color was Jeep 1B = that's a very dark blue. The body of Jeep was so nice it had to be painted in (Raven Gloss Black) so 4 coats of "Raven Gloss black paint applied after prep and block sanding. " Jeep was then color sanded and buffed to a nice high gloss finish ( No orange peal" in paint ). = SEE PHOTOS and VIDEO. *You will even "see my reflection" in one of the paint photos. It's "high gloss" and you can read a news paper backwards in the paint! So, yes I would say it's one of the nicest looking 35 years old Classic Jeep CJ driving the roadways. This Jeep was built to drive and enjoy as they should be! It's been reliabl, It drives nice, It runs nice and it sure look's nice. SEE PHOTOS and VIDEO. Jeep was not built to be a trailer queen that lives on a trailer. * With that said if the paint work was any nicer or this Jeep was anymore sanitary inside and out " you would not want to drive it and get it dirty"'. It will turn every head in town, driving down the street. After paint work was done I installed new fender flairs, new marker lights, new turn single lights, new head light rings, new lower window rubber, new chrome mirrors, All new chrome hood hardware and hinges. New exhaust - ca, muffler and tail pipe. In my onion this Jeep looks nicer today than the day it was sold new 35 years ago. Other tell me the same! Jeep fitted with new 2 1/2 inch leaf springs upgrade and new poly spring bushings. New shocks so it rides nice. No tire rub in wheel wells. New power steering parts and a new ' power steering gear box" installed so it handles nice, ( No steering slop or big free play in steering like most of them. Jeep fitted with factory disc brakes on the front and factory drum rear, so it stops easy, stop straight and will stop on a dime! SEE VIDEO. Jeep fitted with 32 tall - 11.5 wide Pro Comp Tires. Gives Jeep nice body stance. It looks like a classic CJ should. New Alco type 15 inch polished aluminum wheels" period correct for CJ ". Custom front and rear bumpers. Rear bumper has swing out tire rack and class 3 tow hitch. All "dash gauges original" to this Jeep and work correct. that's amazing = SEE VIDEO. The Spedo - Odo - Temp - Oil - Volt even the "Gas gauge" works correct. All the electrical in good working order. The Horn, Wipers and even the "Wiper washer sprayer" works. Heater, blinkers, E flashers, E brake all work correct. The lic plate light and the factory ( Rear Back up lights) work correct . * I did add a aftermarket Tac on steering column and a nice Am/ Fm/Cd/ I pod stereo with floor "' pod speaker" for extra driving connivance. Bucket seat in good conduction but also added Smitty built seat covers with "extra storage pouch" in rear for extra Jeep storage - SEE PHOTO and VIDEO. New Jeep oem "lap and shoulder belts" installed in front. New locking console with cup holders. Buyer also gets the factory CJ rear passenger seat with seat belts. Rear seat is older but looks fine and will get's the job done SEE VIDEO. This Jeep retains all factory original vin tags and vin plates - Factory Vin plate id tag on fire wall . So in 35 years Jeep has been driven a total of 97,000 miles. The Motor and running gear all appear to have been rebuilt and have many less miles on them than the odometer reading of 97,000. ** I pulled the oil pan to inspect the bottom side of motor because it had a "very small" rear main seal oil leak like most motors do new or old. ** The oil pan was clean with no debris and no metal shavings in the pan or in the oil, (. Looked great ) I pulled crank shaft main bearing caps and inspected main bearings and crank. Both looked very nice! No bearing brass contact or mileage ware on crank bearings " that's outstanding and tell me motor has been rebuilt in the past and 97,000 is not miles on current motor build." After I inspected bottom end i replaced rear main seal - I replaced front timing chain seal - replaced pan gasket - replaced the water pump new - replace radiator hose - replaced fan belts heater hose and so on. No need to put it back all together without replacing everything new . All item that i replaced did look good and worked good = But replaced them new to ensure no issue in the future. The oil pressure is also 40 to 60 lb telling me the motor has a good bottom end. Motor also has no lifter noise, none, no timing chain rattle - no smoke in exhaust. Burns very clean= telling me top end of motor is also in good condition. Like I said in the listin, I did not rebuild the motor ( but yes it looks like it has been " rebuilt " from bearing inspection and it runs and performs like a fresher motor) I took a photo of main bearing in bearing cap to show what i say is true. Hope that helps on the original motor "mileage question". What I can tell you is it runs and drives as good as it looks.
