There were many variations of the XJ Police Package, and I have listed the items this vehicle came with.I purchased this vehicle from a small town Sheriff's Dept in Nevada. To my knowledge it spent its entire life there, in service as a law-enforcement vehicle. I saw a picture of it at the Sheriff's office from when it was in service, and it was indeed a full fledged police cruiser. The original title I received showed the Sheriff's office as the original owner, and it's in-service date in 1994. The winning bidder will receive a copy of the original title, as well as the current WA State title.
I trailered the vehicle home from NV, and licensed, titled, and registered it in my name here in WA State, and paid all the sales tax on it.
To make this vehicle safe and reliable, it was necessary to perform an extensive amount of work on it. Here we go: New radiator, new hoses, fresh coolant, external adjustable thermostat for e-fan, new coolant temp gauge sender, new oil pressure gauge sender, new spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, TPS sensor, new exhaust manifold and gasket, verified O2 sensor function, new motor mounts, new shocks (Monroe Gas HD front, Monroe Max Air rear), cleaned grease fittings and lubed chassis, fresh oil and filter change, new air filter, complete gas tank removal, full soak, scrub, clean, dry, installed new Bosch fuel pump and strainer, cleaned and repaired fuel gauge sender, repaired in- tank wiring harness, installed new tank lock ring and gasket, pumped, tested fuel pre-filter to insure cleanliness, installed new fuel filter, repaired fuel leak at filler port, inspected brakes and components, all good, approximately 50% wear on pads and shoes, tires appear new, verified by Sheriff's office.
Due to plugging and/or overheating, it appears the catalytic converter was removed by someone previously, and a straight pipe was installed. The pipe is bolted into the stock mounts, so a new converter would be easy to install, depending on your emissions preferences and needs. It appears the floorboards directly above the converter were blistered in some places from heat, and some areas went through. This area measures about 12x36 inches. Only a small portion of that had actual holes. I fitted metal sheeting panels over this entire area for heat protection, and to protect from the elements. I have included photos. There are also some small isolated areas of rust forming underneath the vehicle, none catastrophic or very serious. I have included photos showing these areas. Someone previously placed a fiberglass patch about 6x6 inches on the driver's floor, but it appears it was more caused by a water leak from up top, than anything down below. The 4wd shift lever is a little tight going in and out of 4-L, but does go. Has been improving with frequent lubing. 4-H very smooth. Cabin fan squeals a bit on start up sometimes, but works fine.
I have driven the vehicle in the rain and not noticed any water leaks from windows, but going through the car wash caused some. It appears there are small areas of window trim with gaps from age needing some fill pieces. The seats are a little dirty, and have some small tears and cuts. The instrument cluster glass has a small crack at the bottom, and the gear indicator in the instrument cluster is not working. The A/C blows cold, and is an R12 system. The headliner is good. The front windshield has a crack, and part of the trim panel housing the wipers is missing. The body and paint have numerous nicks and scrapes, touch-ups from the years, and it appears the vehicle was repainted at some point. There are plugs in the roof from police antennas, and the interior has numerous holes where equipment was mounted. I removed acres of decal glue from the outside, and some imprints still remain, such as "call 911," "Sheriff," etc. I intentionally left the decal glue on the tailgate which shows the actual law enforcement agency's name, just for fun and a touch of authenticity.
The Jeep runs and drives beautiful now after all the repairs and updates, both in town and out on the highway. It really scoots! I think you and your family would really enjoy this very unique, awesome piece of XJ history. Will deliver within 50 miles of Spokane, WA, including Spokane International Airport, served by most major airlines, and am happy to coordinate with any shipping companies. All I require is a $200 deposit within 24 hours of the auction closing, and a cashier's check within 7 days. No cash or personal checks. When funds are fully available in my account, the vehicle will be available for pickup. No reserve!
