Jeep CJ 1978 Description
For Sale, 1978 CJ5 3spd V8The reason I am selling is that I need to thin my car stable. I have little ones running around and don't have time for much else anymore. This is painful to see this Jeep go but it is the right decision. I have given my CJ my own blood, sweat and tears over the years and hope to find her a good home.
STOCK SPECS:
- 1978 Chassis, powertrain is original
- AMC 304 V8
- T-150 3 Speed
- Dana 20 T-case
- AMC 20 rear end
- Dana 30 front end
- Manual locking hubs
- Original mileage unknown since odometer was broken when I bought it. I have put about 1500 miles on it since I've owned it
HISTORY:
I bought the CJ a little over 4 years ago, this is not a daily driver for me. It's one of three side project cars I am working on. It spends most of the time in garaged storage. I have never driven it in the rain in the 4 years I have owned it, it's driven maybe 50 miles a month. I have put around 1500 miles on it since I bought it. I try to drive it to work once a week to keep it loose. It runs great, no smoke and a nice throaty V8 sound. If the Jeep sits for 7-10 days at a time, I give it a spritz of starting fluid to avoid wrenching on the starter. However, hot and cold starts are not an issue if driven regularly. Battery is charged at my garage once a quarter, twice in winter. Fuel always treated with Lucas Ethanol Stabilizer every fill up.
POWERTRAIN:
The AMC 304 V8 runs like a champ. No smoke at startup, idles smooth. I installed a new Holley Truck Avenger 470cfm carb. The resting oil pressure is about 40 psi. The rear main seal leaves a couple drops on the floor after being driven but this is typical of older V8s with two piece seals. Transmission and clutch work fine.
BRAKES:
All hard lines and rubber lines replaced, no leaks. Newly rebuilt rear drums.
WHEELS/TIRES:
15x8 lightweight Pacer magnesium wheels with 12.50 x 33 BFG ATs (@ 40% tread remaining)
CHASSIS:
Frame and underbody in solid shape, has some surface rust/grime/mud that needs a wire brush scrub. I had planned to undercoat in POR-19 at some point.
INTERIOR:
Interior is in great shape. All knobs work, new gauges, new stereo, waterproof amp and speakers, seats, tub is Rhino-linered
EXTERIOR:
New soft top installed. Body is good shape, a few dings here and there. I've clayed it and polished the exterior so it is pretty shiny.
