Jeep CJ 1984 Description

For sale. 1984 AMC Jeep CJ8 Alaskan postal version (right hand drive!!!). It has an inline 258 6-cylinder and is automatic (very rare for older jeeps) 4x4. Floor shift with floor-mounted, and-operated emergency brake. It fires right up, oes run smoothly and drive, ut needs some TLC. The left front fender is dented; there is some rust in the right side front rocker; and the driver's (right side) floor pan will need replacing. It also slips a little in second. No rust in tub, heel wells or reinforced frame. Still has AMC/Jeep mud flaps attached.
Here in the U.S., he Cj-8 Scrambler was marketed mainly as workman like pickup. The Alaskan postal service ordered 230 Cj-8s equipped with the world ca, ide opening "barn door" and insulatingfoam sprayed in the entire cargo area to ensure the mail indeed did get delivered. This jeep is still 85% USPS complete and would make a great candidate for a full postal restoration. You can see where the old USPS stripes and logos were, s well as the USPS unit number on the front windshield and back door. Even has the original postal herringbone cloth seat! 132,000 original miles. Don't miss this rare opportunity to own this rare RHD model of an already rare Jeep!
Additional info:I've had a couple of questions about the Jeep:
  • Yes, he top is removable and is constructed of three primary sheetmetal sections and some attachment hardware. It has never been off of the vehicle and to do so would require some foaminsulationremoval.
  • Yes, here is a plug-in block warmer still attached. These Jeeps were used in Alaska, nd this aided in starting.
  • Yes, t appears there is a trans cooler attached.
  • Maybe - There IS anauxiliary in-cab heater in the Jeep shown in pictures. It is not the standard one I have seen on most Postals. However, he son of the man who drove it said it has always been in the Jeep. It does work. That's all I know.
