Mercury Grand Marquis 1975 Description

The car listed here is a 1975 Mercury Marquis Brougham 4 door Pillared Hardtop. The car was built to be a dealer demonstrator for Warrick Motor Company in Covington, Indianaand manufacturedat the St. Louis assembly plant in December of 1974. Being a dealer demo car it was loaded with some unique options. The options includethe 460 4bbl V8 with factory dual exhaust, C6automatic, Ford 9 inch rear axle with 2.75 gears, LR78x15 whitesidewall tires, cornering lights, tilt wheelspeed control, driver's power seat, reclining passenger seat, bumper protection group, manual air conditioning, electric rear defroster, AM/FM Stereo Radio, intermittent windshield wipers, tinted glass, power vent windows and windows, lock convenience group, body side mouldings, and a power trunk release.

The car was sold from that dealer in July of 1975 and along the way ended up in Western Indiana near the Terre Haute, Indianaarea. One of the prior owner's passed away who owned the car and it sat for a long time. Then it was sold to a gentleman who discovered itbought it and didn't do much with it. This past year it came up for sale and I ended up buying the car because it was locally located here. But, nowI've hadsome things happenand I need to sell the car unfortunately to purchase a newer daily driver for myself plus, I just don't have the time for this car anymore.

Here's what I can tell you about the car currently. The prior ownerhad pulled the car out of a long storage as I mentioned, he told he dropped and cleaned the fueltank, replaced some of the brakes, went through the fuel system and rebuilt the carburetor, replaced the fuel pump, and did some other minor work to get it driving again. The mileage is approximately 57,500 and believed to be the original mileage as the mileage on the title is not "exempt" due to the age of the vehicle. I'll list more information below as organized as I can.

Body- The car is still wearing its original Medium Metallic Green Paint. For being 41 years old, the paint looks pretty good could polish up a little more. There is some typical scratches, dings, and chips. The car still has it fender skirts as well. On the passenger side the factory vinyl top is coming up and there is some bubbles under the top that don't look too bad. The rest of the top is in good shape. The frame is in good shape and has most surface rust however, the car was undercoated from the factory or dealer before it was sold.

Trim- The trim is in good shape with a few pieces that have a little pitting on them. The black mouldings are in great shape and the bumpers are pretty decent as well.

Drivetrain- The engine starts up and runs well. Now, there is a tuningissue with the carburetor bogging out when you attempt to accelerate hard from a dead stop I have gotten it better but, still needs some fine tuning. That's about it and the transmission looks to have a leak but, shifts through all the gears as well. When I got the car I did replace the ignition coil, spark plugs, caps, rotor, and plug wires. An oil change was performed on the car as well and I replace the carburetor mounting gaskets along with a couple of pieces on the carburetor. The engine seems to run strong otherwise with no smoke, overheating, or significant issues.

Suspension- The car rides well and the tires are fairly new Goodyears with good tread. It floats down the road and sucks up the bumps with ease. The steering is great and feels tight considering the size and weight of the car. The car still has its factory shocks.

Electrical- Most everything works on the car. The headlight doors work as they should, the clock in the car works, the power windows work although the vent window does get a little sticky going up, the power trunk release works, radio works, power locks work, and the lights exterior lights work with the exception of the right turn signal not wanting to flash and the rightcornering lamp not lighting up. I believe it is a rightflasher issue. However, the left turn signal and cornering lamp work just fine. In fact, I have installed a new turn signal switch, bulbs, and an electronicemergency flasher in the car along with replacing most of the fuses for good measure since they were the original ones. The only other thing that doesn't work tomy knowledge is the dash bulbs but, some of the lamp indicators do work. The fuel gauge does not work but, the prior owner stated that it does not because he knocked something loose with boiling out the fuel tank to clean out the old gas in the system.

Misc- I believe I have covered as much as I know about this car. Now a few other things to mention is thatthe car is loud because it still has the factory exhaust and stock mufflers and needs replaced. I do have a set of factory replacement Walker Quiet Flow mufflers that do come with the sell of the car. Some other things that I am including with the sale of this car is spare Motorcraft 4350 carburetor that needs some work, the factory workshopmanuals, some spare emblems, decals, and a couple of spare tune up items.I doalso have 4 NOS AC Delco PleasurizerShocks anda Mildonreusable C6 pan gasket to go with the sale of the car as well. The AC does not work at this but, allcomponents are there.

Overall, the car isdecent runner and a cheap way to get into the hobby.I had good intentions herebut, need to sell fairly quickly due to as I said getting another vehicle and I have just don't have the time right now for the car plus I need the space too. I forgot to add one section to this listing the Interior Section. So in regards to the interior, it is in very excellent shape. The dash pad is in excellent shape, the steering wheel is in good shape with a couple of very small cracks. The seats and headliner are all in really good shape along with the inside of the trunk.
