The 72-73 Cougar is the last of the Mustang based Cougars and sported a new aggressive grill and semi-fastback styling. This car marks the end of the 60's muscle car era and Mercury only produced 1,929 convertibles in 1972. A lighter body and a slightly longer wheel base than the 71 and the reintroduction of the convertible option and XR7 are part of this two year production run, fter 73 the Cougar was moved to a bigger sedan like chassis.
