MotoeXotica is pleased to present this unusual vehicle from the Great White North, a 1949 Mercury M47 Half-ton Custom Pickup Truck, that has resided in Temecula, California.
This dark red truck is a completely restored, custom build completed about 18 months ago. Unlike its Ford cousins, Mercury pickups had four horizontal grille bars and came with more exterior chrome, as per the Mercury mission. It has a 351 CID Windsor V-8 engine with a four-barrel Holley carburetor linked to a C6 three-speed automatic transmission. It has the independent suspension from the fourth-generation Chevrolet Corvette (1984-1996) with air bags on rear end.
Truck rides on 17-inch Ridler five-star chrome wheels inside of Pirelli P Zero 275/40ZR17 tires in back and Maxtrek Ingens A1 205/50R17 tires up front. Truck has been lowered on its 114″ wheelbase and includes original running boards. In back is an aftermarket tailgate that can be illuminated.
Inside, you’ll find a custom instrument panel with all Auto Meter gauges work except for the speedometer, which is inaccurate. The truck features tilt steering, heated leather seats, power windows and a newer-style Kenwood double DIN stereo with navigation options and a microphone for voice-activation. The pickup box features Australian Merbau wood. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating for this truck is 4,700 pounds.
The Mercury M-Series is a pickup truck that was produced between 1946 and 1968, primarily for the Canadian market. The M-Series was introduced in Canada because smaller communities either had a Ford dealer or a Lincoln-Mercury-Meteor dealer, but not both; a Mercury truck line offered more opportunities for truck sales.
Between 1948 and 1968, Ford of Canada used the “F” prefix for Ford and “M” for Mercury. From 1948-1950, nominal tonnage ratings were replaced by a series designation in which the numbers indicate the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) when equipped with tires of appropriate capacity. Each code number is arrived at by dividing the GVWR of the series by 100. Thus an F-47 (M-47) indicates a GVWR of 4,700 lbs., F-135 (M-135) indicates 13,500 lbs., etc. Each truck series is rated to its GVWR.
Current mileage on the odometer shows 1,359 miles, which is understood to be miles after restoration. It is sold as is and on a clear and clean California title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!
