The Mercury is a beautiful car and it drives great. I have owned the car for about six years and have driven the car regularly but only a few hundred miles total. I bought it at auction from the collection of a Ford Dealer in Utah. It is an older restoration and has been driven on cruises, so it is no longer perfect and has a few minor blemishes. I had the roof repainted about a year ago because the former owner polished through the paint, there was no damage. I converted the carburetor to a modern Holley that is sized appropriately for the 292 Y-block. I used the original intake and linkage so you cannot tell there is a modern carb when the air cleaner is in place. I also gutted the original oil bath air cleaner and have a modern air cleaner inside the original oil bath housing. This gives a modern intake system while retaining the original appearance. The original cartridge oil filter was adapted to a modern spin on type. I had the transmission pan off last year to change the fluid and the inside of the transmission looked flawless, without a hint of varnish or wear. I used to own a transmission shop and would estimate that this transmission has way less than 3000 miles on it. It also has a new aluminum radiator. The car never overheated but the copper radiator sprung a leak will sitting in the garage. All the gauges and original radio still work.
The car is stunning out in the sun at the shows. It really stands out and I sit and watch people change direction when they are walking the lanes in order to get a closer look. Even though it is no longer perfect, it still has that look of a really well done car. The interior is great with perfect stitch work and lines on the upholstery. It is a quality yellow vinyl with green cloth inserts. The car is comfortable and drives down the road particularly nice since adding the radial tires. This car has been part of my personal collection, but I am trying to start a restoration business and need to clear out some of my personal cars. Cruises smoothly down the road at 60+ miles per hour. Since added the power brakes and electric wipers, I would not be afraid to drive this car anywhere.
This is a no reserve auction beyond my starting price. I advertised this car a year ago and turned down offers over my current starting price. It would cost you way more than this to get a car to this caliber.
The buyer is responsible for shipping charges, but I can help with shipping on my end. I am about 70 miles from the Charleston SC port, which can ship worldwide. I am also 15 minutes from Myrtle Beach International Airport, so you can fly in and drive home.
