Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight 1950 Description
1950 Olds 98 Futuramic Convertible You are viewing a freshly restored full sized Olds that was finished in spring of 2014. The car has been driven 2. 35 miles since finished. Runs and drives excellent and is fully sorted out. 3. 25 98 convertibles were built. There are only four 50 Olds 98 convertibles that are registered known to exist in running condition according to the NAOC (National Antique Oldsmobile Club) Very rare car particularly with the only known to exist NOS 98 GM provided dealer display hood to show case the new Olds V8 in 49 and 50. This car was fully restored to stock condition in great detail. The builder is a nationally known Olds convertible restorer who has done many 88 and 98 convertibles that have been recognized nationally. Third owner with the car acquired just over three years ago with only 44K original miles. The original owner from Ohio only drove the car in the summer and always garaged. The second owner purchased the car when the first owner died and owned for over 30 plus years and only drove the car for 150 miles. The car was in excellent condition when the build started and complete. No rust on the car anywhere other than a few very very small spots that were repaired. Exceptional car to begin restoration on. The firewall build data plate states “Special” for special order regarding the interior. Everything on the car has been restored/rebuilt and or NOS parts used. Please read on for more particulars of the car: Body/Paint: The body was exceptional when starting the build. The passenger side fender and inner fender were replaced due to sheet metal damage from a minor accident. NOS fender and inner fender was used as replacements. The body was taken down to sheet metal with minimal body work that needed to be done. Multiple coats of primer and block sanding was applied. The paint is stock in color other than using base/clear. PPG Garnett Maroon. The paint is near flawless. Wet sanded and highly polished. GM Plexiglas display hood with original stock fully restored hood comes with the car. but will have to be crated and shipped separately. Correct wiring harness used throughout and installed by a team of Olds restoration specialist. Interior: The interior is unique and special order. Red interior would normally be stock with this body color. The “Special” on the firewall build data plate refers to the maroon full leather interior color. Beautiful color combo. Hydraulic power top. windows and front seat. NOS steering wheel. Fully restored to a beautiful stock condition. Fully restored wonder bar radio as original with tubes. Top: The power top and frame was totally restored to factory by a skilled team of restorers using original cloth material in black matching the frame bows. Running Gear: All original to the car and fully restored front to back with a few modern updates to make the car more reliable. Restored to stock configuration. Petronix electronic ignition used. The coil used with the ignition module comes blue and needs to be painted black. The engine runs excellent. The transmission is a Hydromatic 4 speed. Rear end has hiway gears and was fully restored as well. Suspension: Restored as original including all four lever shocks. Frame was blasted and painted with the entire suspension restored. Bright work: All stainless and chrome restored as original in beautiful condition. Glass: All new glass used in the restoration. Exhaust: Restored and dueled off. This does not hurt points when the car is judged. Brakes: Fully restored to original. Wheels/Tires: Stock wheels with Diamond Back 235/75 15 radial tires. Really improves the drivability of the car and does not hurt points when the car is judged. Restored stock hubcaps come with the car with Olds 53 spoke wheel covers that look like Kelsey Hayes currently mounted on the car. This is a common ad on and does not hurt points when the car is judged. Full spare and original jack. base and handle. Summary: This car is in exceptional condition and certainly worthy of consideration for anyone who collects early 50’s GM convertibles. 150K spent on the build. Rare and desirable and would be a blue chip to any collection. The color combo is stunning. A full collection of photos of the build in progress comes with the car in a binder.
