Oldsmobile Cutlass 1972 Description

For reasons that aren't altogether clear, he Oldsmobile Cutlass continues to be a bargain-priced alternative to the virtually identical Chevelles and GTOs out there. This particularly handsome 1972 Cutlass convertible shows just how good-looking these cars can be, ffering an awesome color combination backed by a strong-running V8.Personally, 've always felt the Oldsmobiles were the most handsome of the A-bodies, nd in particular, he convertible with its sporty look and dramatic fender cut lines. As far as we can tell, his one still carries all its original sheetmetal, ll of which is in good condition. A few years ago, he car was treated to a makeover with fresh red paint (code A Matador Red, hich is this car's original color) but they didn't change any of the Cutlass's inherent goodness, o they avoided fake 442 stripes and other add-ons. The finish is smooth and deep, nd while it has a few signs of use, his is definitely a high-impact car that gets a lot of attention. Perhaps if we'd had more of these running around, t would have reinforced the idea that Oldsmobiles aren't just family cars. This one has plenty of go to go with the show. All the chrome and trim is intact, ncluding the intricate egg crate grille and multi-piece taillight lenses and it appears that the bumpers have been re-chromed because they look fantastic.Open the door and you'll discover a very clean black and white interior with lots of original components. A front bench seat makes this car ideal for cruising and details like the wood appliques on the door panels and dash remind you that this is a few steps up from a basic Chevy. The gauges show beautiful brushed stainless faces and delicate orange-tipped needles, ith a familiar 2-spoke steering wheel that should look familiar to any Oldsmobile fan. This ragtop carries power windows, hich is always nice in a convertible, lus factory A/C that blows cold thanks to good old R12 refrigerant inside, nd the original AM/FM radio is still in its slot with upgraded speakers in the rear side panels. The highly original trunk includes a full-sized spare and the white power convertible top works easily and offers a matching white boot. One glance at the gold-painted Rocket 350 will tell you that this is an Oldsmobile engine. Sharing nothing with the other GM engines of the same size, he Olds 350 is well-regarded for its virtually bulletproof construction and high-nickel-content iron block that has proven to be exceptionally durable over the years. It has been nicely detailed but has retained its factory-issued equipment, anging from the air cleaner to the A6 compressor for the A/C system. Sure, t shows a few signs of use, ut a weekend of cleaning things up would take it up a few notches and it does run superbly. The chassis is as clean as you'd expect from a car that has lived its life in a warm climate. The TH350 3-speed automatic transmission shifts well and there are easy-cruising gears in the original 10-bolt rear end. Dual exhaust has been added and gives the car that familiar Oldsmobile growl and four Goodyear white-letter radials have been fitted to color-matched Rallye II wheels which really accentuate the Oldsmobile's sporting personality.Ultra clean, ast, nd stylish, his Olds is the answer when you're looking to get noticed without spending a small fortune.
