Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight 1969 Description
Very Nice, 100% Original Full Size Oldsmobile Convertible. This is an unrestored 2-owner car that runs and drives beautifully. Car has been garage kept most of its life. There is some rust behind 3 of the wheel wells (see pictures) and the driver side front quarter panel looks to have had some body work done from a small fender-bender many, many years ago, but hard to see unless looking at it close-up. There was a small oil leak from one of the valve covers when I bought the car. I replaced both valve cover gaskets and in doing so, could see that the engine had a valve job not very many years ago. Car is in its original "Aztec Gold Poly" paint, which is not in bad shape for 48 years old! Interior color is Gold, and the Original Convertible Top is gold, and the powered top works flawlessly. Car has the original, optioned front disk brakes and air conditioning, which turns, but needs to be re-charged. I have done a complete tuneup, replaced all hoses and belts, changed oil and filters, drained flushed and changed coolant, removed gas tank and professionally rubber-coated the tank and replaced the sender unit (yes, gas guage works!), all new brakes, new whitewall Hancock tires, new Monroe shocks all around, rebuilt the original 2-bbl carburetor and replaced the dashboard speaker with a new OEM replacement. AM radio works nice as well as the old FM converter installed "back-in-the-day". Headlights, high-beams, interior courtesy lights, trunk light, under hood light, brake lights, turn signals, etc, are all 100% operational. I believe there is a small ground issue in the dash, as the gas guage goes down about 1/4 way when the headlights are turned on....only does this when headlights are on, and since I only took the car to shows in the summer, didn't bother to look into. The original owners son who sold the car told me his late father special-ordered the car with the cloth front seat that is in it. Looks to be factory?...but I have no idea if that is true. Overall a very nice looking car, as-is, to enjoy the summer car show months in....or....spend a little on her and fix some rust spots and/or repaint her back to her original glory. The original convertible gold-color boot is also on the car. Need my garage back...and lost interest in the car show scene, hence the reason for selling. Looking to find the car a good home! Buyer or agent is welcome to inspect the vehicle prior to purchase. Please ask any questions or request additional photos. Please, serious buyers only.
