Plymouth Other 1931 Description

1931 PLYMOUTH 3-Window Coupe with Rumble Seat; Original Classic; Hot Rod? Street Rod? Great condition.

Presented for your bidding consideration is a very rare, ery nice, 5-year old, ostly original, lymouth Model PA automobile . . .

HOT RODDERs: As a street rod guy, originally bought this vehicle with intentions of turning it into a chopped, ropped, alls-to-the-wall supercharged street machine. However, ’ve recently acquired an Oldsmobile that more fits my particular requirements. I need room, o this one has to go.

This fine Plymouth could be the clean-slate start of your next Hot Rod project. Its heavy-duty frame has never been hacked on; the body, enders, nd running boards are all Detroit steel; and the top has never been assaulted with a bad chop job. The engine compartment is extra long so you probably won’t have to cut into the firewall to fit a high-performance V8 into the space (the Plymouth’s wheel-base is 6” longer than Ford’s Model A). In fact these Plymouths are 500 pounds heavier than the Model A’s, hich is testament to its stronger frame and body. Almost no wood, nlike other manufacturers, as used. According to the great website . . .

www.allpar.com/old/pa-plymouth.html:

Use of wood was kept to a minimum (most of it going into the roof as a support for the fabric roof covering). The car was "fire and crash proof," according to the factory, nd to prove their point, lymouth engineers took a PA sedan to nearby Bald Mountain and pushed the car over a cliff. The car came crashing down, verturning several times on its downward descent, ut landing on its wheels. Amazingly, ot one single pane of glass in the car was broken, o engineers climbed into the car, tarted it up and drove it to the top of the mountain where they again pushed it over the cliff - nineteen times! At the end of the 19th crash, ll doors were operable and outside of dented fenders and running boards, nd a few body dents, he car was still operable. The estimated cost of repairs to put the car back into A-1 condition? $50! Without a doubt, lymouth engineers felt they could easily call this all steel body a "Triumph of Engineering."

The side windows crank up and down with ease, he doors open easily and close firmly, nd the windshield tilts out and locks into position.Although the oval rear window register needs help, t does open so you can talk with folks in the rumble seat or for maximum ventilation on those hot days. All glass is good.

The paint is pretty good considering its age, ith a few chips and a small worn off area from a tarp when being shipped (see photo), ut you are most likely going to do a custom paint job anyway. It is missing the rumble seat handle. After you upgrade all the systems, ou could sell the 1931 parts you remove to Plymouth enthusiasts.

Over 100,000 Model A coupes were produced in 1931.But only 9,696 Plymouth coupes were built. You will certainly stand out in the crowd with this very rare car.

RESTORATIONISTS: It may be impossible to find an unmolested 3-window coupe in such great condition. No heavy body work to take hundreds of your hours to repair. Body panels line up nicely.

This Model PA was built in Detroit between June 1, 931 and July 12, 932 and bears Serial # 1624787. Its Engine # is: PA95382. The PA was a totally new design and was “factory-wise” a 1932, ut they called it a 1931. Plymouth engineers added hydraulic brakes on all four wheels; a balanced crankshaft with matched-weight pistons and rods; 4-rings per piston; the Silver Dome cylinder head; the Floating Power transmission; full-pressure engine lubrication; a larger fuel tank; and a lower center of gravity.

The comfy interior upholstery is intact and very nice and shows very well with no smoke or musty odors. The rumble seat upholstery is newer and very nice. She starts, hifts, rakes, nd steers as expected. This is a beautiful example of a historic 1931 Plymouth coupe. I’ve driven `31 Model A’s and they have no where nearly the power of this 4-cylinder engine. In the day, lymouth advertised this engine as,“The economy of a four; the smoothness of a six.” They weren’t kidding.

She’s got an original 196.1 cubic inch 4-cylinder engine boasting 56 horsepower and an amazing 130 foot-pounds of torque. The 3-speed manual transmission gets you up to speed quickly. It goes down the road straight, hifts smoothly, nd the original hydraulicbrakes on all four wheels stop you just as designed.

TheAllstate Safety Tread19” tires on steel wire wheels are checked, ut hold air well with no leak downs.

The rubberized top is tight with no tears.

Rear spare tire mount (currently off the car) is included, s is a spare wire wheel (no tire). See photo.

She’s in wonderful condition for her age and therefore a great candidate for a Museum Quality Restoration; Advertising & Promotional use; a parade car; or just drive it as is and have a great time with the family!Put your friends or the kids in the rumble seat, wing open the windshield, nd go for a cruise to the drive-in or the local car show or for a drive in the country. You’ll get lots of thumbs-up wherever this classic automobile takes you. You can’t help but smile when you’re driving this sweet old Plymouth.

If you’re looking for a very rare 1931 3-window Plymouth coupe, you won’t find a better example than this beauty.

I am holding a clear, ien-free, 931 Plymouth Coupe title in my name.
