Plymouth Barracuda 1970 Description
Up for bid is a 1970 Plymouth 'Cuda 440 6-Barrel, V-code), utomatic, umbers matching block, n original FJ5 Limelight. I've owned this car since 1992, restored it over the period 1992 to 1996. Mileage is approx. 95,000. I say approximate since the dash cluster is not the original, nd I have not way to know how many clusters it had before I acquired it. I am going off of how much I have driven it and what the title mileage was when I got it. I've but less than a 1000 miles a year on it since 1996 with the exception of one Mopar Nats trip and one Power Tour.Body and Paint: The car was stripped to bare metal, oth quarters were re-skinned, nd all filler used was USC All-Metal. PPG products were used throughout. The base primer is DP-40 epoxy primer, ith K-200 filler primer after that, ollowed by 3 coats of DBU basecoat and 5 coats of DCU 2020 clearcoat, hich was wet sanded and buffed. The paint has held up extremely well, ith one 1" long area above the driver's door where the seam sealer (3M Fast N' Firm) separated slightly and split the paint. The trunklid is an older generation (non-AMD) reproduction. Bumpers are re-chromed originals. Grille is re-finished original, s is the Shaker bubble. All rubber seals are reproductions and in great shape. Glass is original with the exception of a brand new windshield. Underside is black undercoat as original.
Interior: Repro seat covers and headliner from Legendary. Carpet is Auto Custom Carpets. Interior panels are original, e-dyed with PPG vinyl dye. Seat belts re-dyed originals. Dash pad is a Year One repro. Gauges are perfect, ash cluster is not the original as it had been converted to a Rallye dash sometime before I acquired it. Everything works as it should. Add-on include the Autometer Street Tach and a shift light, oth of which are installed in existing factory holes and can be removed easily (I'll be glad to keep them if the Day 2 look is not your thing). The car was originally column shift, hich I converted to floor shift a few years ago. The current set-up is a TCI Outlaw pistol grip ratchet shifter with reverse lock-out. It also has a switch installed on the shifter handle for the Moroso Line-Loc.
Engine and Drivetrain: Block is the original. One rebuild, tock-type with repro spec cam. Original 6-barrel rods with offset weighted damper. It has the original cast iron 6-barrel manifold and original heads. The carbs are modern Holley repros. Everything is dialed in with no bogging or hesitation. The engine makes an estimated 400 horsepower at the crank based on the very consistent 13.9 et/101 mph trap speed the few times I've had it racing. TTI nickel-plated 1 7/8" headers, ull TTI 3" exhaust (H-pipe) with Flowmaster 40-series mufflers and TTI stainless tips. Sounds way more nasty than it has a right to. Transmission is not the original, t's a Bob Mazzolini Racing 727, ith 5.0 apply lever, hift kit, ughes 2500 stall converter, nd a deep pan. Driveshaft is original with new 1760 U-joints. Rearend is original Dana 60, xle bearings are Green non-adjustable. Originally had 4.10 gears (Super Performance Axle Package on build sheet) but now has 3.54 for "better" highway cruising (turns 3000 rpm at 70). Fluids are synthetic throughout.
Electrical: Car has modern electronics (MSD 7AL) hidden under battery tray. Headlights and road lamps are on modern relays, lso concealed under battery tray. Alternator is modern Denso unit with internal voltage regulator (stock regulator is in place for looks only). All wiring is modern, ll connections soldered. Electrics on this car are rock solid.
Suspension: Mopar XHD rear leaf springs, ias design as original. Mopar .96 torsion bars (.92 was stock). PST Polygraphite suspension bushings throughout. Magnum Force tubular front control arms (so I could lower the car where I like it and achieve a proper front end alignment). KYB Gas-a-just gas shocks at all 4 corners.
Wheels and Tires: Weld Prostar, 5x6 front with BFG 225-70-15, 5x8 rear with BFG 275-60-15 Drag Radials. Have complete set of 15x7 Rallyes with BFG tires in the same sizes if you prefer.
Bottom Line: Extremely nice older restoration with "Day 2" mods ready to enjoy. On Jul-18-15 at 07:57:14 PDT, eller added the following information:
