(I haven't checked) Fully rebuilt 727 Torqueflight Transmission Factory power steering and upgraded to power DISC brakes Excellent running and driving desirable Mopar Can be enjoyed every day with pride and/or easily taken to next level As a lifetime collector of primarily General Motors vehicles I don't venture outside of the GM family very often. But, even I have my exceptions. At the top of that list has always been 1970 Plymouth B-bodies. I love them. Whether you're a Mopar, GM or Ford guy, these cars appeal to everyone. My hat is off to the designers at Chrysler in the late 60's. This is a good and honest car. Not a perfect 100 point car of course but a really nice example. These are becoming very difficult to find in solid condition. It doesn't take a Mopar expert to know that these cars were almost always plagued with rust issues. Mine is actually a pretty great car which is why I jumped at the chance to buy it. My claims to fame are very limited regarding this Plymouth. How she appears today is exactly how I got her. The car had been sitting indoors for many years. I purchased it from a friend of mine about a year ago. He had just installed the brand new wheels and tires when he noticed the transmission starting to slip. That's when I bought the car and immediately had the transmission completely rebuilt. Clutches, torque converter, etc. The transmission operates perfectly. It was my intention from day-one to drop in a 383 or 440. That's an easy and rewarding task. But, the engine that's in it now just runs so well that I couldn't bring myself to change it. I assume it's a 318 but haven't even looked for any numbers. I didn't care! I will check the block casting and add that info. I have been all over this car from top to bottom. Undersides and trunk are excellent. Car seems to be impressively solid. I found some minor repair under the rear window (close-up photo provided in display) and I believe the very bottom section of both rear quarters has been replaced. Quarter panels, trunk pan, etc, are original. My knowledge of the cars history is somewhat limited. I'm fairly certain it's always been here in Oregon and absolutely positive that she's never seen a salted road! At 49 years old it's safe to say I've been collecting and restoring for most of my life. The paint was probably done 15 or 20 years ago and is a shade off from original. The original green interior was changed to black. They did a nice job on that. I find no evidence of anything being dyed but I may have missed something minor. Only the rear seat belts remain green. The interior is in great shape. Mechanically, the car is sound. The engine and transmission work just like they should. I have no drive-train concerns. The brakes, steering and suspension are tight and sound as well. Simply turn the key and go. This car needs to be in a Mopar lovers garage. I'm simplifying my life and reducing the amount of cars I have to take care of. I have no sentimental attachment to this Plymouth yet so it's the right time to say goodbye. I will make brief comments under the first few photos in the display. -ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, BRAKES & SUSPENSION- Okay, nothing to brag about here. Normally I would have enjoyed going crazy on an engine compartment detail which would be easy on this car. I never touched it. That rewarding improvement can be done by the next owner. However, as ugly as it is, everything here works just like it should. Mix-matched Edelbrock carburetor sitting on an aluminum Holley intake but they they work perfectly! I don't dare touch em. 1980's Mickey Thompson valve covers too! She starts easily, idles smoothly, accelerates well, kicks down into passing gear and sounds great through the Flowmaster exhaust. I can't even see any leaks. As they say, don't mess with success. 727 trans is new. Brakes are all new with DISC up front. Suspension and steering are tight. I noticed a new steering box and a few replaced items which is probably why she drives like she does. I still say drop in a big block but she is enjoyable now. -UNDERSIDES- The underbelly we hope to find. Undercoated when new. My explorations have discovered no floor or underside rust issues present or past. Hard to find like this! |

-BODY, PAINT, TRIM, etc- As stated previously, the body is solid. I'm sure minor work was done prior to being repainted many years ago but I don't find any poor patch work or abuses of bondo. All body panels are original. Bumpers and trim are originals showing age but every piece is in-place. Chrome is getting dull, etc. All glass is nice. There are certain terms and phrases that have always bothered me when it comes to describing an old car. At the top of that list of statements that bug me is "Driver Quality" and "20 footer". By who's standards? Look, I'm a man that describes things in detail. Those two phrases are actually very correct. This is a nice and good looking car in anyone's opinion. The car is very straight as you look down the sides. The repaint performed a long time ago was mid-range at best. Little chips and blems can be found. The clearcoat on the trunk lid is flawed. Only visible on close inspection but needed to be mentioned. Bottom line: The paint has a nice shine and gloss. The car presents and shows well. Never ending compliments every time I take her out. No excuses necessary, just not perfect. |
